Torre Arena Hotel

“ In general the room was clean and bright, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

On the down-side I would note that the hotel was some distance from many of the resaurants / bars / shops - we walked approx 3-4km and back each day to reach them.

As other reports had suggested the breakfasts were not brilliant. There was a limted range of meats, cheeses etc, and the quality of some basic fayre such as cofee(flavoured froth), Juice (powdered concentrate!), jam, bread etc of a very poor standard. Also the partition walls between rooms were very thin, so you could clearly hear activity in other rooms all along the corridor late into the night.

Being 'slightly out of town' did have one advantage in that the stretch of beach directly in front of this hotel was much quieter than that further up the coast.

“ Easy to find. Good parking. Nothing spectacular but clean, tidy and good value for money. Don't expect to encounter any Brits; we only met two.

“ The roof top pool and terrace affords a really great view of the beach across the road and all along the coast line, as well as providing shade and a bar. There was a smell of damp in the bathroom as the fan didn't work, but we just kept the door shut (which didn't help the problem but it stopped our room from smelling). The room had a really quiet air conditioning unit which was a blessing at night and the staff were friendly and knowledgable about the local area and publc transport.

“ Top Tip: The area is busy with Spanish holidaymakers and weekenders so check out Chiringuitos along the beach on a any weekend afternoon where they cook up humungous paella and barbeque freshly caught fish on the beach. There's a sign to it from the main road or just follow your nose as you walk along the beach.
Also, don't bother with an expensive transfer from Malaga airport. The cheapest quote I got was 132Euros return in a private taxi. Instead get the train from the airport to Malaga Town (1,20Euros), walk through the shopping centre to the bus station and catch the bus (2,80Euros). It stops right outside this hotel but there are other stops in Torrox Costa and you can get a ride from there. Total cost around 10Euros.
