Excellent

Check-in date:

The Facilities at the Hotel are first Class. The views from the rooms are superb. The only drawbacks are parking and the hilly terrain of the site and the location. Otherwise it would be a perfect 10.It is very Spanish and without trying the language you will struggle here. That is why I like it but not everyone will feel the same.

Top Tip: La Herradura has everything you need but Almuñecar and Salobreña are well worth visiting too. La Califa Bar in La Herradura is worth a visit the tapas keep coming, the more you drink the more you eat, (hic!)

Very Good

Check-in date:

On the whole a good hotel - very nice public areas, good pools and rooms a very decent size with lots of wardrobe space. Our room had fantastic views over Marina del Este and Almunecar.

Free wifi in the lobby was very good - but didn't extend up into rooms (at least not to the 4th floor)

Food mixed - generally good for omnivores, but vegetarians struggle some nights. Often take a long time to replace empty trays of food, and when busy the waiters are very rushed - and over anxious to clear tables: twice drink was removed and the table cleared while we were getting our next course!

Restaurant laid out a bit like a canteen - long rows of tables and could get VERY busy. Not a place for a quiet romantic meal, or a place to linger.

Front office staff very helpful and friendly - waiting and housekeeping staff less so - not unpleasant, probably just wanting to get on with their jobs.

Unless you want to spend all day by the pool you really need a car here - steep walks into Marina Del Este and La Herradura - not for the infirm or unfit. But with car nice and central for Costa Tropical and eastern Costa del Sol exploring. Hotel parking is expensive at 5Euros/day, but we always found somewhere to park within 5 mins walk, even when at busiest.

Guests nearly all Spanish - gives a real flavour to the stay rather than being a little Britain abroad - but with all that comes with that, good and bad. You won't get your evening meal until 8.00pm for example. A bit of Spanish language is helpful - front desk speak English very well, but others have little.

So all in all had an enjoyable stay - hotel and facilities definitely 4 star, but food restaurant only a bit above 3 star.

Top Tip: La Herradura beach is a great place to sit with a drink in a beach bar and watch the sun go down over the sea

Take the side roads up the valleys off the old coast road between La Herradura and Maro - then walk the farm tracks finding secret valleys and great views

Definitely not a four star - at a push you could give it three. Food was very poor and the dining room was more like a canteen.

Great

Declan from Pluckley

Check-in date:

Very nice hotel. Hard to find if driving there as it was not on our sat nav. and the road from town was closed due to landslide. Used the indoor pool, tennis court and bowling alley (bowling not allowed for kids under 6/7). Outdoor pool looked nice but too cold to use this time of year. A nice walk down the winding hill to La Herradura – not so easy coming back! Very steep.
Excellent buffet at breakfast and dinner. Almost all the other guests were Spanish when we were there – all very friendly, especially when you have kids with you.

Top Tip: Very nice little Tapas bar up a side street just next to the digital temperature gauge on the main drag

Spectacular

Anthony from Manchester

Check-in date:

Described by one guest as Butlins goes Spanish, I found it amazingly friendly and warm. Yes the entertainment was more for kids and Spanish was the primary language, but come on we are in Spain! The impromptu singing and dancing after the cafe closed was much more entertaining, and everybody was included. The prices were very reasonable, (some Hotels that have you high on a hill miles from anywhere might have taken advantage). The views from the rooms were magnificent and we were able to watch the sun go up and set from our balcony. Cleaned thoroughly every day, breakfasts fantastic, I will definitely consider a return.

Top Tip: You can walk down to La Herradura at night but wear something light or take a torch, the road is dark and has hairpin bends. The nearest beach is 15 minutes walk down, half hour back up, careful in the heat of the day. (Get the bus)
