Fornells Park Hotel

“ The hotel was low cost and in general represented good value for money for the price paid. The good things about the hotel were friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and the decor although old and suffering from wear and tear summoned up a sense of post-war spacious elegance, particularly the staircase. Unfortunately I was seriously disappointed with the standard of cleanliness. The hotel appears to have a system whereby they only partially clean the rooms each day which is reasonably acceptable (given the price) during one person's stay. However the hotel appears to follow this system even when new people are moving in so when I arrived the bedroom was clean and set up but I was horriified to find a bearded bath. The previous occupant of my room (who was clearly hirsute or an animal because the hotel allows dogs) had left an undisturbed hairy bath which was disgusting. I complained to the hotel and they dealt with it fairly promptly but it destroyed my confidence in the cleanliness of the hotel.

“ Top Tip: No, not really. I like to walk and was disappointed that it wasn't possilble to walk into town because of the busy road and no footpaths or back roads.

“ The Hotel was set in well kept gardens and even though it was near to the main road the traffic was not particularly intrusive. There is a convenient bus stop, just otside the hotel, which goes from Gerona bus station to the airport, the fares were reasonable and the buses ran about every hour.

The actual buildiung was quite attractive with a verandah at the front where we could drink coffee or alcohol and enjoy a chat in the shade. There is a swimming pool in the grounds where we enjoyed sunbathing and a swim on a very hot afternoon. The rooms were basic but clean and reasonably comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. I thought the restaurant was a bit expensive and we did not really enjoy the food. The stairs were a bit of a problem for me as we were given a room on the second floor and I am partially sighted. This may be a problem or some people with mobility issues. I think there was a lift but I did not see it. It is not really a holiday hotel and I noticed there were quite a few business people using it. I suppose becasue it is convenient for the airport.

But generally for the price I thought it was not a bad deal.

“ Top Tip: The hotel is situated about half way between the airport and Gerona about a fiteen minute bus ride each way. I think if I went to Gerona again I would book a hotel in Gerona Old City where there are plenty of things to see and a choice of restuarants.

“ The hotel was excellent nice rooms and very helpful receptionists.

The restaurant was another experience the paellas and the seafood noodles had been left in the oven far too long had been left to dry out and then wetted with soya sauce! It was far too salty and the seafood dry beyond recognition. The restaurant manager would not take them of the bill so I would not eat there again. The waiter was rude and threw the food down on the tables.
