“ We asked for, and stayed at a 'rural' hotel. The room was reasonably spacious and adequately equipped as I would have expected. The decor, especially in the en-suite bathroom was a bit dated. There were 'no frills' or anything special. Equally there was nothing wrong either!
We preferred staying at such a rural hotel, to a large 'concrete' hotel amidst many other similar hotels in a main holiday resort, and if this is what you wish to do in Gran Canaria (or any of the other islands in the Canaries) then the choice is limited.
There were no other eating places in the near vicinity, unless you were willing to drive to them, and this would have meant that one of the party could not drink. So you are stuck with the restaurant attached to the hotel. This restaurant is not run by the hotel itself, but by an independent operator. So it was not possible to charge the restaurant costs to the room, and one had to pay by cash each evening which was inconvenient. The food at the restaurant was OK but nothing special, but there were a reasonable variety of dishes at a range of prices.
So basically it was a bit limited, but so is the choice if you want this sort of hotel!

“ Top Tip: One warning - if you want a self drive hire car, do NOT use Orlando Car Hire - they are NOT efficient! We booked our car hire through Travel Republic, and wish we had not done so. Orlando Car Hire are not on site at the airport, but several miles away, and were not at the airport to meet us, as the car hire document said that they would be. We had to 'phone them, and they took more than an hour to arrive.
