The seat of the parliament in 1202, this Renaissance-style castle was built by order of Fernando II de Leen and forms part of the former walled enclosure of the town. Practically razed to the ground in 1808 during the Peninsular War, it conserves the monumental Torre del Caracol, where there is a living room with an impressive Mudejar (Moorish) coffered ceiling. It now comprises a total of 38 guest rooms. “ This hotel is rated as 3* and it is difficult to see how they justify this. We were traveling through Northern Spain and stayed at several hotels - this was by far the worst! After spending nearly 2 hours finding the place we eventually ended up at a garage way out in the wilds,with what can only be described as a motel tagged on.
