The Hacienda was exactly as we had expected from reading previous reviews. The plus points are the wonderful gardens and the large, clean pool and surrounding pool area. We found the pool to be cool but not too cold to swim in (at the end of March, I imagine it would be too cool earlier in the season ). The staff are friendly and helpful, especially at reception. The rooms are slightly dated, as we had expected given the age of the property, but they are large and spacious and are well kept. We had no view other than dense foliage and that would be our only criticism. We stayed B & B so can't comment on the evening meals. Breakfast was fine, not the best we've ever had but better than expected given the price of our week's accommodation. The Hacienda is perfect for older travellers who are coming to the island to walk or sight-see, it has almost no night life and nor does the area but Santa Cruz is 10 mins away by car and we really liked it.

Top Tip: Our favourite restaurant in the resort was definitely Sadi's - walk along the prom and turn right at the end . It is excellent - really great food and friendly ambience. The bar/restaurant Tasca Alavasca is also very good.

The apartment was very spacious and clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The hotel was quiet and peaceful with no entertainment which suited our needs but would maybe not be for families.
The food in the restaurant was good but the choice of main course at the dinner buffet was not very varied. On a positive note they were very helpful with my need for a gluten free diet and provided special bread for breakfast and asked me what I would like for dinner every evening. The choice was a bit limited, mainly meat or fish with potatoes, chips or rice, but it was freshly cooked when I went in for dinner and was piping hot.

Top Tip: there is good hiking on the island buy you need to hire a car to get to the footpaths.

Check-in date:

I've stayed at this hotel twice before (last time 2006) and it's just as good as ever. In 2006 I went with my husband who was using a wheelchair - the facilities are not totally accessible for people with disabilities, but lots better than many places and have been improved in the resort since. Now widowed, this time I was with a friend. The hotel garden is lovely, the staff very helpful and friendly and the on-site restuarant very attractive and serves good food (buffet service) at a reasonable price. The pool was beautiful to sit by but was a bit cold for swimming, however the beach is very close and the sea was warm. The room had a lovely garden seating area and a view of the sea through the palm trees.

Top Tip: This is a quiet resort and not really suited to families with teenagers, but fine for younger children. We had a hire car for three days (organised through and delivered / returned at the hotel, which made it really easy), and although the island is mountainous the main roads to the south and across the centre (with tunnels) and into the national park are well engineered and the signage is good. There are interesting places to visit (volcanic scenery), easy short walks and more adventurous walking for the keen hiker.

Excellent in every way. Clean spacious, good restaraunt, good pool, lovely gardens, helpful staff. Good access by bus, car rental available from reception. Two weeks of bliss. Would definately return

Top Tip: Buses give good access to some excellent, if hilly, walks but a couple of days car hire gives access to the remoter areas of this beautiful and interesting island.
