Gran Camp de Mar Hotel

“ I would definately recommend this hotel. I am a single parent, and travelled with my two children aged 17 and 12. The room was always clean and comfortable, with lovely terrace, comfortable furniture, and lovely view to the sea and island resaurant. However, there are a few things that could be improved on - the room was too small really for three of us, but adequate as we were hardly there. The fridge could have done with being deeper, to allow more things to be put inside and the air conditioning was only on for certian times of the day, which could be uncomforable if you spend more time in the room.

I was on half board plus, which meant breakfast and evening meal, including drinks, which was local red and white wine, beer and all the fizzy drinks coke etc. The food was excellent, well presented and staff very welcoming. There is a dress code for dinner.

I hired a hire car from the airport, for the whole duration of our stay and divided our time between exploring the island and spending time on the beach. However, once you have moved your car from the local free car park, your space will be gone for the whole day, because people travel in to the beach. We tended to go out at 10am and return around 6.30pm when spaces would be available. I would recommend hiring a car...I would have gone crazy if not, as nothing else in the area except hotel and beach. Drive round to Andratx in the evening about 8.30pm and see the sun set over Sa Dragonera...simply stunning, or drive to Peguera. It is a lovely palce to walk arond in the evening and has a great supermarket Mercadona...which is a good stop off for picnic items when out for the day.

We did NOT use the pool at the hotel once, because all sunbeds were taken by 7.45am!! It is also a salt water pool. However the beach was great, even though it did get crowded, and shade was at a premium...so take an umbrella and flip flops coz the sand gets sooooo HOT!!!!

Great little shops near by to get bread and fruit etc, and the shop at the top of the hill, near the taxi rank is owned by British couple and they sell Robinsons juice! Beach restaurants are a rip off unless you are loaded, don't bother! So grab a bagette and some fruit from the shop, watch out though, the fresh bread sells quickly.

We explored the whole of the western part of the island up to Cap de Formenter and inland. Stunning drives.....some very dangerous but well worth it! We spent a whole day in the Arab Quarter of Palma. Parked in the undergound car park near the lake, very expensive but central, so worth the money. We went on a sunday and there was hardly any one about...all shops are closed, which was great for me. Plaza cafes open for lunches.

I love Mallorca, my third trip. Great for scenery, photography and away from it all. We chose a good base for our holiday and only 40 mins from the airport too.

“ Top Tip: Do the walk on the west coast at San Marroig down to the headland with the massive hole. About 6km, but well worth it. Lovely swim cove at the bottom so take swim stuff, lots of water and solid shoes. There is a restaurant at the bottom, but closed on thursdays, which we found to our peril! Great photography on route and overhanging caves. Go into the mansion house to the rotunda beautiful views. The coffee at the open cafe at the top is simple the best in Mallorca, take in the view and you will not want to go home!
