The Barcelo Formentor is worthy of it's 5 star rating.
The staff were welcoming and attentive. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The gardens were a delight and the pool area was spotless. Access to the beach was easy and wonderful for adults and children alike. It's EU Blue Flag status was justified.
However if you wanted a sunbed and shade the cost, close to the hotel (and controlled by them) was unreasonable, but we were only too happy to sit on the sand and enjoy the crystal clear water. Within the grounds there were ample supplies of free sunbeds.

“ Excellent hotel.The setting was fabulous and the view for the bedroom can only be described as breathtaking.Still a painting in my mind.The gardens were absolutely gorgeous and the beach facilities were excellent.However deckchairs expensive at Euro 30 per day for 2.

“ Great quiet location with lovely views from the terrace restaurant, pleasant grounds and good swimming pools. "Mountain view" room was actually a "car park view" room, but was comfortable, if slightly odd in design. Good breakfast buffet. No real choice of restaurant for evening meal and driving to another resort on the mountain road is not a good idea if you want wine with your meal. A good buffet meal on offer but a very limited (and expensive) a la carte menu served by the same staff in the same location. (The hotel's website shows other restaurants available, but they are closed as of June 09) All beach restaurants closed after lunch. On our first evening the a la carte service was awful and we complained to the manager. He mentioned cut-backs necessitated by poor occupancy levels. Thereafter we enjoyed good buffet meals, so we would definitely advise to book half board.
“ Top Tip: We stopped in Port de Pollenca on the way back to the airport and enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Stay on the marina. this was our favourite restaurant 10 years ago and standards have not changed.

Absolutely fantastic place, secluded, beautiful setting,views,gardens and the service was superb. Everyone from cleaners to waiters to reception were helpful, informative, and multi-lingual.
A brilliant place for a long weekend to read, swim, eat and very peaceful.
The Buffet breakfast was so varied and enough to last all day.
Shame the other hotel restaurants were open but we were early June and there were not enough clients there.
