Tucked in the mountains 45 minutes from Malaga, this small, family run hotel has 22 well equipped bedrooms all with air conditioning and central heating, private bathroom, minibar, television, telephone and safety deposit box. All the bedrooms have large sun terraces with views onto the mountain ranges or the Mediterranean Coast. The Rural Almazara is typically Andalucian in design with its white washed walls and rustic, warm charm.

Basic, but comfortable. Food was disappointing. The restaurant was 'closed for the holidays' during the evenings, though managed to open when faced with an influx of weekend locals. Breakfast was a choice of breads, ham, salami, cheese and the occasional slices of fruit. The bread could be toasted, but the rolls from one day put in an appearance the next day, and so on.
Tea and coffee sachets in the rooms, two of each, were not replenished and our enquiry about this received the response that the two sachets of each were the week's allocation and we would have to pay if we desired any more. No milk, not even dried, was supplied for drinks in the rooms.
The hotel's address is Frigiliana, a pretty village on the hillside above Nerja, but actually several miles below the village itself. Not an inconvenient location, though, and Nerja was a pleasant town with one excellent beach, the Playa Burriana to the east of the town. Lots of good eating places in Nerja.
“ Top Tip: Just across the autovia from the hotel is a restaurant attached to a petrol station which looks unpromising but serves excellent meals, including the biggest rack of ribs you've ever seen.

Not so positve points first:
There is some road noise from the main road opposite.
It is quite a walk away from Nerja (extremely steep just outside the hotel and about 2 miles to the beach) so you do need a car, although the bus stop is opposite the hotel on the main road.
It is a shame that you have to pay to use the small fridge (mini-bar) in your room, when some other hotels provide a full size one for free!
The positive points:
The rooms are quiet, basic but also very clean and tidy.
The air-con is very good, efficient and quiet.
The food in the hotel is very, very, good, more often excellant (One or two of the waiters may seem slightly grumpy but that is not really the case, if you make the effort).
I would say the hotel would suit the older person, it is quiet, no dancing or loud disco music (great-please keep it that way!!).
