  • We had an excellent stay at Sol Gavilanes Hotel. When we arrived we upgraded our room from a side view to a front view room, it was well worth the extra cost for the upgrade for the beautiful view, we were on the 5th floor which seemed the perfect position to fully appreciate the view.

  • This is a fantastic hotel in a prime position, right on the beautiful beach of Cala Galdana. The food is excellent, lots of choice. There is a lovely roof top bar and restaurant where you can dine, or relax with a drink, whilst taking in the view of the bay.

The Sol Gavilanes is the only hotel in Cala Galdana located right on the beach. Cala Galdana is a fine sandy cove located on the south coast of Menorca in the municipality of Ferreries and is one of the island's most beautiful coves. The hotel is surrounded by gardens and pine trees that reach right down to the beach. The hotel offers exclusive views of the coastline. From its restaurants and terraces, as well as from the rooms on the front of the hotel, you can admire a magnificent view of crystal clear waters and the sand below. Hotel certified with ISO14001 and EMAS for its environmental practices.

Just 5 minutes walking distance from the shops in Cala Galdana, 15 minutos from Ciudadela, 24 km from the 18-hole golf course Son Parc, 40 minutes from Mahón and 40 km from the airport.

We had an excellent stay at Sol Gavilanes Hotel.
When we arrived we upgraded our room from a side view to a front view room, it was well worth the extra cost for the upgrade for the beautiful view, we were on the 5th floor which seemed the perfect position to fully appreciate the view. The room was a little on the small side but was kept lovely & clean by the Maid who came in daily. All the Staff were very friendly & also very efficient.
Booking Half Board,I could not fault the food itself as there was a wide variety of choices, I think they do there best to cater for everyone at meal times, the only thing I will say is the food wasn't always very hot.
Took our own Kettle (which we were glad of) as there are no Tea making facilities in the rooms but we did have a small fridge which was sufficient for keeping water & milk & a bottle of wine chilled.( The little shop just outside the Hotel was very handy. )
Nice pool area but found the water rather cold but it didn't seem to put others off.
Having the beach so close was a big plus.
We would definitely like to visit this lovely Hotel again sometime in the future.

This is a fantastic hotel in a prime position, right on the beautiful beach of Cala Galdana. The food is excellent, lots of choice. There is a lovely roof top bar and restaurant where you can dine, or relax with a drink, whilst taking in the view of the bay. There is a hotel run mini-club for 2 hours every morning and afternoon, and the girls who run it are fabulous with the children. We stayed in a family room, which was huge! It is, in fact 2 rooms together, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The hotel is exceptionally clean and our room was cleaned to a very high standard.
Cala Galdana is a quiet resort, where the entertainment is mostly hotel based. It is a short walk into the square in the town where there are a couple of bars to sit and watch the world go by.
Overall this is a beautiful hotel, we will definitely return and would have no problem recommending this hotel.

Top Tip: The higher floor you are on, the better the view over the bay.

Hotel was excellent- food, drinks and location all perfect. The resort is superb- billed as a tiny, quiet town with a beautiful bay and that is what you get. The coastline is well preserved for wildlife, yet accessible for walks of all lenghts. A perfect place to relax.

Our only minor criticism for the whole holiday was the evening entertainment; an endless supply of tribute acts at both major hotels [The Sol Gavilanes and The Cala Galdana] which were extremely loud and could be heard across the whole resort- not really in keeping with the "theme."

Top Tip: Hire a kayak, pack a picnic and explore the coastline for a whole day- well worth the cost!

Having stayed many times at this hotel, I find it a little tired, and in need of a little tlc especially in the bedrooms, pool areas and restaurants.

They have over the last 2 years modernised the reception and bar area which is looking very smart, but they are now charging the most rediculous amounts for beverages and unfortunately the entertainment in the evenings is very poor, resulting in the venue not being used.

The bedrooms are very outdated, and exactly the same as when I first stayed there over 11 years ago. This year there was also the most awful smell of dust in the room which they did try to disguise with an airfreshner in the wardrobe. The facilities ie a TV from the 70s, and no coffee making facilities. On the positive side the fridge is a useful item to use.

The pool area is extremly busy because the pool itself is not heated, so therefore, all except the most brave (normally children) are not able to swim as the cold temperature takes your breath away!! The sunbeds and mattresses very warn.

Luckily this year the hotel did not charge 2 euro for us to use the rooftop restaurant for breakfast. The main restaurant again has not changed in 11 years, even the same miserable, unhelpful staff still work there!! I would sack the lot and employ people who want to work...people who can be customer facing with a smile. Also, the selection of food very basic, have seen the selection decline over the years, making it very repetitive. Also, the staff rush you if you appear in the restuarant at 9.00pm they close at 9.30pm.

The cleaning staff in the hotel were the most friendliest people there and should be commended for doing there best always greeting the holiday makers.

Also I believe a new Manager has recently been appointed, obviously a number cruncher, not once did we see him in the hotel... The previous Managers were always very visible to staff and visitors alike.

Top Tip: The best thing we did differently this year was hire a car, and toured this beautiful island at our leisure, not relying on public transport as before.
