Unfortunately the hotel was quite a walking distance outside the centre of Mahon so not handy for restaurants or bars or shops. It was also opposite a working port complete with container ships etc so quite a lot of noise from there. The harbour was not nicely laid out and to get there were a lot of steps. It was in a residential area and the residents took all the parking spaces, so hiring a car would be a major problem for parking. There were no nice little bars to have the odd drink in nearby, although the hotel bar prices were reasonable, as was the restaurant food.
The staff were very pleasant, polite and professional and helpful. The room standard was good to excellent. There was free wifi which I used a lot - it was fast and faultless. The interior of the hotel was excellent. It was just disappointing regards its position and this didn't help the fact it rained more days than not!
“ Top Tip: There is a good tapas bar right opposite the big stone gate entering the town centre. It seemed to be all spanish people in there but I was made very welcome. There was another good bar/cafe in Calle de Sa Lluna street. Again I was made welcome and the food was good and cheap.

“ We requested a room overlooking Mahon Harbour and our wishes were granted. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The hotel was very well situated in Mahon being near the harbour and the old town, which suited our requiements.

“ We would definately stay at this hotel again. The only problem was that on arrival the room allocated to us was not the best as we looked straight onto the front of the hotel on the level of the road. We couldnt have our curtains open. This was rectified and within two days we were moved to a better room with a small terrace at the rear of the hotel.
“ Top Tip: We found a couple of nice restaurants en-route to the harbour. Both were Italian and very reasonably pricedconsidering the euro exchange was not good. Unfortunately we cannot remember the names.

The Hotel Port Mahon is ideally located in the most stylish residential area of Mahon with beautiful views of the harbour. This colonial style hotel has 73 air conditioned bedrooms all well decorated and equipped with modern amenities including television, telephone and minibar. The hotel also has a restaurant, a piano bar, café, outdoor swimming pool and splendid sun terrace on-site.
“ We stayed for one night on 21st October 2011 at the end of a two week holiday. We had come straight from a villa and were returning the next day. We found everything neat, clean and comfortable. The hotel was quiet being end of season, but still all services were running.
