Firstly the accommodation is not called Menorca Country Club, and appears not to have been for several years.

The apartment was in desperate need of refurbishment but the staff were helpful and polite and the food in the dining room good.

Overall quite a good holiday, we were lucky as we were upgraded to a 2 bed apartment with views over the pool and sea, although no air-conditioning the fans we were given were fine. Having seen the one bed we were supposed to have stayed in don't think we would have been impressed as although they have air-con they are very small. Really friendly staff especially the receptionists and very helpful. Accommodation was cleaned 3 times whilst we were there for the 10 days. Not many restaurants nearby and a shame that buses didn't run more regularly. Our biggest problem was the enteratinment staff, we were a family of 4 with 2 girls aged 8 and 11, all the entertainment is in Italian, but it was more the fact that they didn't make an effort to be friendly with the English. If your are Italian you are given an orange wrist band everyone else a blue, and the entertainment staff would take note of this before decideing whether to speak to you or not. In fact on the night before we went home one of the entertainment staff who hadn't spoken to us at all decided to try and make fools of some of the English and was quite rude, we did complain about this and they were certainly more friendly then but too little too late by then. Food was OK, but got a bit boring and so although we were all inclusive, we ate in Fornells a couple evenings. We had only payed £1500.00 for the 10 days so not too bad, however spoke to other couples who had paid £2600.00, so be wary as it is not worth that price! Menorca is a lovely place and we would return to the Island but not to this resort or the Carema Playa Hotel.

Top Tip: Fornells is very pretty harbour and a nice restaurant near the front (with lobsters in a tank) can't remember what it is called.

The hotel was clean and well kept. Reception staff were fairly unhelpful - we made the same requests 4 times to different people and they still did not manage to carry out what we requested. The hotel is also very popular with Italian package tourists. The closest beach to the resort is not particularly good but there are several good beaches on the surrounding coast line. If staying at this hotel you need a car or a bike to get around as the bus service is very poor and you need to be prepared for an average of 20km journey per day to get around.

Top Tip: Cafe Nord across the hill has excellent fresh fish (catch of the day) to a very good price.

This holiday at Carema Club Player was the worst we have experienced in 20 years of holidaying in Spain and the Balearics. First and formost this hotel caters mainly for Italians. We found If you were English you did not exist, all information notices were printed in Italian and we were refused access to the local bus being told it was only for the entertainment staff (Italian again). The food was disgraceful and cold, in a restuarant catering for about 200 people there was 1 microwave oven to heat your food if you could get in the queue and I have never before in all my life been to a hotel (allegedly 4 star) where you cannot get toast at breakfast time. When I attempted to enqure why, all I got was a cursory shrug of the shoulders. Not a very nice state of affairs. We met 3 other English couples who were equally dissatified, one, a policeman and his wife were intending to make an official complaint regarding the bad taste in entertainment (they seemed to think it funny impersonating the terrorist bomber Bin Ladenj). Entertainment generally was sub standard an interfered with evening Dinner shouting and bawling always in Italian when you are trying to enjoy a meal. Then to cap it all we were informed that after 10pm we had to pay for our drinks. This is not what I pay all Inclusive for. In Fairness I had no complaint with the appartment having said that after 1 week we were so disillusioned with the general state of affairs that we checked out and booked in to the Valentin Hotel at Son Bou which was absolute heaven, and Carema Club Playa didnt even have the common curtesy to enquire why we were leaving a week early.

Top Tip: We Hired a car as you know and after the third night of suffering the Hotel Restuarant we ate out all the time and everywhere was wonderful after such a disappointment. Valentin Hotel at Son Bou was wonderful in every way. So much so that we are going back next year.

The rooms were perfectly acceptable, and the food in the restaurant was varied, and generally excellent. It certainly wasn't 'chips with everything', and the profiteroles on Thursday were 'to die for'. There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool, and there was never a problem reserving them. This could be down to the fact that there were not many Brits or Germans in the hotel, as it is a mainly Italian oriented establishment.

This led to the only minor drawback of the hotel. Namely, all of the evening entertainment was in Italian, and it was generally pretty dire, although we did start joining by the end of the week.

It was also a bit unusual that the all inclusive drinks ended at the somewhat early hour of 10pm, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment too much.

Top Tip: The nearby town of Fornells is worth a visit, and is walkable in about 45 minutes, if you are feeling energetic. Alternatively, you can get a bus or taxi.
