Best Punta Dorada Hotel

“ On arrival we were informed (with no explanation) that we were booked into their sister hotel The Best Negresco on the opposite side of the street.
We chose The Best Punta Dorada especially as we like to stay in a smaller hotel and we thought we were getting a seaview room. As we booked this holiday in January this was very disappointing especially after speaking to people that were staying there and had only booked days previously.
This review is for The Best Negresco.
There was only 5 sun shades at the hotel - no where near enough.
There was no toilet brush in our room!
2 days running we didn't have a bath mat.
We didn't dislike the hotel is was just twice as large as we were expecting.
The food was plentifull and varied.

“ Top Tip: We loved the quiet area and the walk along the beach and into the village.
We visited Salou once during our stay and only stayed for about an hour and a half and we were ready to return to the peacefull area of the hotel.

“ This hotel was not a four star hotel. There was really no proper maitre'de to supervise the proper running of the dining room. In addition, after our first day, there was no chef in the morning to make omelettes etc. The soup would run out and you would have to inform someone to replenish same. Of course one had to wait for other dishes to be replenished, but that does happen in hotels, but it should not happen in a four star. Also the hotel had one manager who had to oversee two other hotels. I don't think I ever saw him. Of course this hotel was bought over by Best Hotels last year, but they still haven't got their act together. I was in the sister hotel Negresco which is opposite last year which is a three star and it was ok compared to this one.

“ This is the third time we have used this hotel, so the fact that is is not near a lot of entertainment etc. suits us as it is quiet.The food is excellent and more 'continental' , so its no good if you are a 'basic' british food type !

“ Top Tip: Take the bus to Cambrils its a smart town with a nice marina. Don't go by the bus timetables, they turn up when they like, normally in packs of 2 or 3 ! The special one for the tour of Barcelona is generally on time though.

“ Unfortunately when we arrived at 01.00am after a long day travelling, we were informed by reception that they had no knowledge of our booking; despite the fact that i had atken the booking voucher with the confirmation on it.
After a discussion we were allowed to stay the night, but would not serve us any food.
The next morning i went down to reception (our party did not unpack) to find out what was happening, i was informed by reception that we could stay, an explanation was never given.

“ Top Tip: An english bar was located around the corner from the hotel, which was very good all round.
