Candido Hotel

“ The Cándido is a spacious, luxurious and extremely well appointed hotel. My ground floor room was enormous and very comfortably furnished, and had French doors leading to its own enclosed patio. The large bathroom contained separate toilet and shower room. The food served in the bar, restaurant and breakfast room was very good. The reception staff were very helpful on all matters. There was free wi-fi in the reception area. Though it is some distance from the centre of Segovia, the hotel's advantages outweigh that disadvantage. Thoroughly recommended, especially at the great TravelRepublic rate which included breakfast.

Nevertheless there were a few small faults. It was surprising that a room in a 4* hotel lacked a floor-length mirror, a full range of toiletries, a face-cloth and a soap tray beside the bath. The free mini-bar contained only two small bottles of beer and some mineral water. Breakfast is not served until 8.00 am on Sundays (and opened late when I was there), which was tight for my 8.30 am departure.

“ Top Tip: Buses nos. 4 and 5 depart for the centre of Segovia from a stop opposite the hotel, @ 0.86€ single. However, they are not very frequent and it is worth checking the timetables. The stop on the return journey is a good 5-minutes' walk from the hotel. Special praise is due to the driver of a no 5 bus, who brought back, intact, my wallet which I had left on the bus. Alternatively, reception can call taxis at short notice.

“ What a stunning hotel! It's the best rated on Trip Advisor for hotels in Segovia - and I can now see why. It's lavishly decorated, and our room did not disappoint, with a beautifully furnished room and stunning bathroom. Web-site photos can be misleading, but not in the case of the Candido. The staff were extremely accommodating, and they made me feel welcome. Unfortunately, the exterior pool was closed due to cleaning and possibly being out-of-season, but we were able to use the spa - sauna, jacuzzi and indoor pool (there is also a gym), albeit it cost us just under 20 Euros per person. This did include the cost of a pair of flip-flops and swimming cap (the wearing of both is mandatory). Breakfast was included in the cost, and it was delicious: a varied selection of cold meats, salmon, Spanish cheese, pastries, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, cereals and toast. The dining room was like an enormous tea-room, with maids in traditional uniform determined to meet the needs of all the guests! It was just a shame that we stayed only 1 night at the Candido, as it warranted a longer stay, but I hope one day that I will return!

“ Top Tip: The Candido is a short taxi ride from the station, and the road outside was not at all busy - at least in October. In fact, I could clearly hear birdsong from my room! The centre of Segovia is just over a mile away. Because our trip was a very short one, we were conscious of time, so we ordered a taxi into the city, which was less than 10 euros. However, the walk would have been a very pleasant one. There was nothing of note next to the hotel, but that didn't bother us at all.

“ Very luxuriously appointed hotel. Our room had french doors which overlooked the garden and it was actually enjoyable just to sit in the bedroom and look out. The spa / indoor pool was brilliant and the water was warm. Outdoor pool was being worked on at the time of visit, but it was too cold to use anyway. Could have done with more tables and chairs in the garden.

“ Top Tip: Went to sister Candido restuarant by the aqueduct in Segovia, where it seemed a bit more atmospheric than the hotel restaurant.
