The Catalonia Punta del Rey is located on the seafront in Las Caletillas, only 14 kilometres from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a real taste of Tenerife, away from the hustle and bustle of the larger resorts. The hotel is close to a number of blue, crystalline beaches next to Villa Mariana de la Candelaria (located at 5 km), which was the first sanctuary in honour of the virgin patron saint of the archipelago for whom the Villa has been named. You can enjoy the beauty of the gardens surrounding the swimming pool and the environment designed by the well known architect Cesar Manrique.

The hotel offers a large variety of daytime and night-time entertainment activities as well as a disco and live shows in the bar. Safety box with extra charge.

The resort is very quiet and not alot to do. The staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The meals offered were a wide choice but were not always hot enough. On occaision coach parties arrived for meals and this made the restaurant very busy. The salt pool is not in use.

We really enjoyed our stay but if you want perfection this hotel is not for you, if you can put up with the odd hiccup then I would recommend it. We thought the all inclusive package was really good value

This hotel is definitely not to 4 star standard. The food was appalling. I survived on bread cheese yoghurt and fruit for breakfast and dinner. It is a first for me to actually lose weight on holiday - but even the canary potatoes were inedible, being black when cut in to and having previously sprouted!. Deserts were a choice of Creme caramel, blackcurrant coloured mousse, ice cream, and yoghurt (EVERY NIGHT). The facilities were there but were worn out and in need of replacement. Everything was done on the cheap - e.g. no beach towels, sunbeds with no adjustments, no heating in the rooms (needed because one whole block got NO sunshine). The hotel foyer was very tired. The only saving grace to this hotel was the lovely friendly staff who deserve better than they get.

Top Tip: A great bus service to other places - necessary because you don t want to stay in the hotel any longer than necessary

I didn't feel this was a four star hotel. The staff don't speak a lot of english and I don't speak any spanish so learning a few phrases before you come here would be extremely useful. The food was edible but not a lot of choice which actually suited me as sometimes with all inclusive you can be overwhelmed by the choice. The hotel pool exterior certainly needs a lick of paint and the interior of the pools look a little dirty, however the water is clean and the pools are a very good size, given the high tempratures. The rooms are very small but clean which is most important. There are only about five umbrellas for the whole hotel which is ridiculous. The snack bar closes at 5PM and the all inclusive drinks bar closes at 11PM every evening. The hotel has it's own entertainment and a disco. I certainly wouldn't recommend this as an all girl or all lads holiday - it's too quiet. It would be a good choice for couples and young families. I think it's ideal for singles who just want to go and chill out for a week as I would certainly do so myself again. The beach is a stone's throw (if you like black sand!). A car is certainly recommended to get out and about although the bus is just as cheap. The hotel website claims it is EUR30 from the Airport to the hotel but it's not it's EUR50. The bus does stop outside the Airport and costs EUR4 if you don't mind dragging your suitcase down the hill. If you can arrange Airport Transfers with your flights and hotel - I would recommend you do so. There is an additional pool over the road from the hotel, by the tennis courts which is right next to the ocean. This was closed when I went and it didn't advise this on the website, it may remain closed for another two months which the hotel should be advising. It is an amazing sight of being right next to the ocean and its filled with sea water - perfect. I would go to this hotel again as I am now more familiar with the costs of transport and what to expect. There is a great mix of foreigners at the hotel and I did make some good friends and the people I did meet are on the 4th and 5th times of being at that hotel so it's not all bad. They do have internet access which is extremely slow at times but it does work. The hotel is located in a Spanish fishing village but it is nice to have a change and a slowed down pace of life from time to time.

Top Tip: Not really. The shops are a taxi ride away and the beach is about a ten minute walk if you want to sunbathe and access the ocean for a swim. It is very rocky wherever you go and shoes for the water are highly recommended as it is very painful getting into the ocean with bare feet walking over hundreds of stones!!!!

Hotel was good, so was the food. Day and night entertainment so so.Not in a resort, no nearby shops, pubs etc. The big minus was you had to queue up in the mornings before they let you go to the pool at 9.00am, this really was not pleasant.

Top Tip: The hotel was in the middle of nowhere, we had to get buses to the nearest resorts
