Colon Rambla Hotel

“ An excellent location for all the sites of Santa Cruz, hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

“ Top Tip: Whilst Santa Cruz does not have a beach, there is an amazing purpose built area near the sea with pools, sun loungers, cafe and other amenities.

“ The room was extremely comfortable and the staff were extremely helpful. The hotel is located in an elegant housing area but it is a bit outside the centre of town. There are buses which stop nearby and taxis are relatively cheap. The restaurant was limited in choice and was not much patronised so that it was necessary to walk to get to restaurants for evening meals.

“ A lovely little hotel in a plush suburb of Santa Cruz with some very fine properties, and very near the beautiful Garcia Sanabia park. Just a brief walk to the centre of town. Yapsi (yes, really) and his team at the front desk couldn't have been more welcoming or more helpful. A very nice little garden, with a 20' x 60' unheated pool. The location is perfect for exploring the delightful city of Santa Cruz, (without tourists!) - if you are looking for the real thing on Tenerife. A girlfriend and I shared a Junior Suite, which had a double bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen and a front room with a sofa bed, so we swapped rooms half way through our stay. Enjoyed watching the green escapee parrots from the balcony every morning. We didn't eat in the hotel, although the locals were all there over Christmas for their Christmas meals, so it is probably pretty good.
The only drawback, which might worry those with more acute hearing than me, is that the Rambla is a very busy main road, so it can at times be quite noisy.

“ Top Tip: We were there over Christmas, so the city was full of life with street performers, clowns, carol singers. But be aware that the city literally dies for quite a few hours on Christmas Eve (like a ghost town) but then everything reopens at midnight, and off they go again.
There are just too many really good places to eat in the city to mention them all, but don't miss the Bodeguita Canaria (wonderful little black papas arrugadas, - I'd always thought papas arrugadas were a non-event before) ham etc. etc.) the Meson Castellano, the little bar El Pernil in Dr. Allart, the classy and stylish La Cazuela near the hotel, and the unpretentious old style eating house, El Puntero. Also take a bus from the Plaza de Espana (they go every 10 minutes) to the locals' beach (Tesesitas)- no tourist garbage here and just two or three kiosks selling wine, beer, and snacks. Stop off at San Andres, just before the beach and have lunch at a terrific little restaurant - El Peton - for tapas and wine and limpets to die for.......

“ Lovely place to stay in Santa Cruz ( great city break by the way) near to the centre Some may have found the traffic noise from the Rambla nearby a problem but we didn't. Good thought unheated pool. Staff helpful - the hotel breakfast was expensive so we went to local bars for ours.

“ Top Tip: Las Teresinas beach- Los Robotica restaurant ( treat prices not for every day but worth it- ) Use the buses and trams to travel around town and the island- great cheap and regular. The market it wonderful and open on Sunday.
