“ A lovely looking hotel inside, very friendly and helpful waiters . Animation team are as full of themselves as every other animation team in Tunisia! Rooms are nice and clean and a fair size. If you are an aircraft spotter like me,ask for a non-sea view room and you will be able to watch aircraft take off and land to your heart's content, but if not it is still surprisingly unintrusive being so close to the airport. Outdoor pools are great, beach is right outside the back of the hotel grounds and the sea is only a few metres away. My one complaint is the food, and believe me i have never complained about food! Some hotels in Skanes have amazing variety and wonderful tasty choices (even for vegetarians), but Helya is not one of them. A very limited choice each night - for example there is only ever 1 type of potato per meal - and it all feels a little 'school dinnerish'. It does not seem to match hotels like Sahara beach and Liberty for choice or tastiness. Not many Brits use this hotel but i quite liked that aspect.
“ Top Tip: As stated in other reviews, do not book transfer transport. I walked over to the hotel in 5 minutes in high shoes so most of you will have no problems at all. In fact of that 5 minutes, most of it is within the hotel grounds anyway! Also, be careful if arriving on an early flight: my flight landed at 10.45 , unusually i got through passport control and baggage within 10 minutes(!) and then had to wait an hour at the hotel for my room to be prepared as they had not expected me that early. I did not find it that big a deal but you might so be prepared.

“ Unfortunately I cannot find anything positive to say about this hotel other than it was on a beautiful beach! When we arrived in the early hours of the morning exhausted they didn't have a room for us (not a good start considering we'd been travelling for the best part of 12 hours). We were then given a room (for 1 night only) which was absolutely disgusting (dirty, the shower cubicle was crumbling, and it had a tiny window very high up that resembled a prison cell) I have no idea how they could put anybody in a room like this! We went to complain, they kept us waiting for ages not really communicating with us, and finally gave us another room. This room was on the airport side of the hotel so very noisy, the porter pulled the curtain down whilst closing them for us and just left it, and it also turned out to be swarming with ants - everywhere...yuk! We obviously complained again the next day and was told that we needed to return in the afternoon to sort the matter out - which we did and after queuing and being ignored for most of the time (get used to it at this hotel) we finally chose another room although it didn't have a balcony it was the best of a bad bunch. The one we were given a key to with a balcony either hadn't been cleaned or still had guests in it. It took an hour to sort this out so in the space of 12 hours we had 4 different rooms and not one apology from any member of staff which I find appalling. On asking to change money I was told they couldn't and I would need to return later, the same with internet cards (they never seemed to be able to do anything initially) and the fact of being ignored at reception and the staff serving every other person drove me nuts! Our holiday seemed to go from bad to worse, there were flies crawling all over the food at all of the meals which was awful, both of us ended up poorly whilst on holiday. On the final day as our flight wasn't due to depart until midnight we wanted to stay in the room until we were supposed to check out - we were harrassed by staff knocking on the door asking what time we were leaving. We were told we could change in the spa when we were due to leave for the airport in reality what we were offered was the baggage room...bonus! The icing on the cake was my mobile phone going missing on the last day - I honestly could've cried. We went away for a break, and now I feel we need a holiday to get over this holiday. Sorry but totally not recommended.

Fantastic hol - so if you're going then don't listen to the other bad reviews - it was so good. Friendly staff, entertainments team worked very hard. Spacious round pool and you have the private beach too - can do kiyaking there free! You will need to get up early to get a bed but thats usual for August anywhere and if you dont get a bed you can actually sit on the floor if you want! Lovely and hot but a constant breeze so very comfortable. Big rooms always cleaned (leave your ticket on door). Staff always cleaning or doing something to maintain hotel. Restaurant was absolutely fine - yes it was repetitive but just choose something different every night - simple!
Yes it was only plastic cups for drinks but didn't both us. Entertainment in eve wasn't that good but ok for an hour and mini disco first. Lots going on in the daytime.

Top Tip:
Walk to the hotel from the airport, watch the road though very busy!
I arrived at night so got a taxi for 5 euros, dont pay any more than 10 dinars which is overpriced anyway, but its only £4.50 and worth it if you have lots of luggage.
Wear a high factor. We went in August and wore factor 50, 40 then 30 and didn't burn - got a lovely tan too!
Really busy at airport when you leave, look out for those flight numbers as the desks take in 2 flights but dont show both numbers - very confusing! Just ask someone....
