“ Lovely hotel and staff. The only problem was room service for food that was forgotten about but resolved amicably. Very expensive for alcohol though and breakfast.

The County Hotel, formerly known as Thistle Newcastle, is a fascinating mix of old and new. Directly opposite the central railway station and in the heart of the city, the hotel is a Grade II Victorian Listed building, which has been sympathetically restored and brought right up to date.
“ The public areas of the hotel were very well maintained & the staff were excellent. The buffet breakfast was very good. The bedroom could have done with being updated as there were signs of wear & tear.

The Newgate Hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Newcastle city centre, adjacent to The Gate and just a few minutes from Eldon Square. What's more it's easily accessible from the A167 and has its own car park making it a really convenient place to stay. If you are travelling by train then you'll find the hotel just a short walk along Grainger Street from Newcastle Central Station where you can also access the Tyne & Wear Metro system which provides excellent and speedy links within the city and to the surrounding area.
“ Hotel was a great location for shops, pubs and restaurants. Also near bus and train station. Could do with a refubishment but clean which is the main thing. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a pleasant stay and will go back to the hotel again.

“ Really good location less than 5 minutes walk from the train station. Lots of pubs and restaraunts nearby and 5-10 minutes walk from centre shopping (Eldon Square and Grainger Market) The hotel itself was really good and clean with a not too bad selection at breakfast. We foung the staff were very helpful and cheerful. We would definitely stay again
