We have stayed here numerous times and always enjoyed our stay. Literally across the road from the Birmingham NIA it is ideally situated and a home from home. These are apartment type accomodations consisting of bedroom(s), bathroom with shower over bath and lounge/diner/kitchen area. The kitchens even have dishwashers and washing machines. We have always found them to be furnished to a high standard and very modern. There is secure parking for an additional £10.
However having recommended this to many people we were really disappointd following our stay on Friday. Initially we were allocated room D79. The apartment was a lot more compact than any others we have stayed in and situated "outside" on the balcony. We were greated by a big iron imprint on the hallway carpet and the accomodation had greatly gone downhill. The cleaning standards and general repairs were very low. There was a socket hanging out in the bedroom, the carpets were all marked and in need of a good clean or replacement. The kitchen/lounge/diner clearly had not been cleaned well. The television was filthy and the dishwasher was covered in rice and spillage marks. It looked like the cleaner had just cleaned the bathroom and hoovered quickly through. I wasn't confident the bed had even been changed and asked for a different room. It really wasn't to a good standard - certainly not what we had experienced in the past.
We were reallocated room B45 without problem. However although this was a much nicer apartment and bigger, the cleaning wasn't much better. The side of the sofa had runs down it where it hadn't been wiped down and the bin was situated next to it. The kitchen cupboards were not wiped down and again had runs on them. The same with the dining chairs. It wasn't filthy but certainly not the standards that we expected and had in the past. In the hallway was a tatty rug and in the bedroom the lampshade plastic lining had melted and was contored and instead of replacing the lampshade it had been left looked shoddy. Again the carpets needed a good clean or replacing. The bed were two singles put together and I had one of the most uncomfortable nights sleeps as I was sleeping in the gap. The bathroom was spotlessly clean but not sure what happened with the installation of the bath as when you were stood under the shower the bath was creaking and flimsy and you felt as if you were going to go through it.
It was such a shame the general standards have really fallen. Even the lift was filthy the house-keeping and lack of upkeep have really spoilt this accomodation and we probably won't stay here again. We would have rated it 9/10 before - now I wouldn't put it past a 2/3. Such a shame and disappointment and a complete over-charge for this hostel type accomodation.
“ Top Tip: + Convenient for the NIA and secure parking.
