Situated close to Banbury Cross itself The Whately is set in its own beautiful gardens. The cast of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice got into character easily during their stay here while filming the TV series in the surrounding area taking inspiration from the stunning scenery all around. Hidden staircases priest holes and the resident friendly ghost of Father Bernard are famously part of the charm of this 17th Century treasure. A good starting point for exploring the Cotswolds Stratford-upon-Avon Warwick Castle and Oxford.

Check-in date:

Old main building with more recent extension benefiting from good views at the rear over pleasant garden. Good central location in Banbury with private car park. Decor in communal areas was in places tired, at the time of our visit both Gents toilets on the ground floor near bar and restaurant were out of order. Bar reasonably priced for drink, a tad pricy for food, restaurant menu also appears little expensive, although we did not eat in either. Full English Breakfast good, although buffet style meant food was warm rather than hot, a dirty milk jug was returned. Bedroom had all that you would expect, decor okay, might be a little cleaner. Staff courteous and sufficiently attentive. Overall would it benefit from some modernisation, the hotel is typical for its class. I would stay again, but I would not give it a resounding recommendation.

Top Tip: The bar called "Also Known As" in Parsons Street is lively late venue.

Hotel was busy due to a wedding. Breakfast was good but service a bit slow. Buffet had run out of lots and had to wait for quite a while for it to be replenished. Asked for ketchup and never got any.
Extra staff needed due to amout of guests staying. Hotel clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful.

Check-in date:

The hotel is situated at Bambury Cross, close to all amenities, bowling, cinema, new shopping centre located on canal all within walking distance. Enjoyed being in a historical building, parts of building could do with refurbishment, but saying that they have just been taken over recently by new management, it was clean and the staff were excellent.

Top Tip: Coach & Horses a must for good food, excellent service, if you like Thai the Thai Orchard Restaurant is excellent and only a few minutes walk from the hotel, only stayed three nights and went there twice.
