Check-in date:

Unfortunately the room was full of flies due to hot weather which were partially dealt with the same day we arrived and the following day. I feel the room should have been checked prior to our arrival.
The staff were lovely and the public rooms were spectacular- however I did feel we were housed in the servants quarters!!

Stayed in a Basic Double Room which was very basic and small. Room was clean as was the bedding & towels but the bed was very uncomfortable and definately needed replacing. Hanging space very limited no drawers, no air-con & no internet connection.
Good choice of cooked or continental breakast was included in the room rate. Evening meal in the Brassey Restaurant was very good although a little pricey.
Hotel is surrounded by beautiful countryside and in the grounds is a lovely health/leisure club with a 20m swimming pool.

Check-in date:

wonderful setting in spacious grounds with an imposing building in need of attention both inside and externally. Staff very attentive without being 'in your face'. Rooms small but clean and acceptable for short stay. Extension to historic hotel building not impressive externally and definitely lacking in design 'class' and style interior-wise - a real lost opportunity to create a really stylish hotel interior alongside the original house.
Dinner at the wedding reception was not particularly good and was disappointing.

Top Tip: The grounds.

Room was too small, shower lacked hot water. On arrival had several bags , no help to find room. Restaurant food was good but service slow. Needs to update televisions to bring into the 20th century. Disapointed would not recommend to friends.

Loved the location.Enjoyed my stay. Perhaps it might be good to tell people how far they may need to carry their cases, and amount of stairs that are involved.

 3 Star Hotel

Customer rating from 4 reviews: 7.0 Good

The Spread Eagle has stood imposingly in the heart of historic Thame since the 16th century famous for its farmer's market and mile long Main Street. During its colourful history the hotel has played host to Charles II French prisoners from the Napoleonic wars famous politicians and writers such as Evelyn Waugh. The Georgian facade is instantly recognisable by all drawn in by the un-miss able 30-ft inn sign originally designed by Lytton Strachey's Carrington which has welcomed all our guests for nearly a century. Our discerning customers needs for a warm welcome attentive but discreet service and excellent food and wine has not changed since the days of John Fothergill the hotel's pioneer innkeeper. The fantastic city of Oxford with its dreamy spires and punting on the River Thames is within easy reach along with the historic town of Aylesbury and for shopping addicts Bicester Outlet Village is only minutes away.
