Royal York Brighton Hotel
Old Steine, Brighton, East-Sussex BN1 1NP
Brighton, East Sussex, United Kingdom
4 Star Hotel
The current owners have undertaken an extensive refurbishment of the building and are proud to have restored this historic and beautiful hotel. Their aim has been to bring back the fun the colour and the vibrancy of the Regency period when the hotel first opened. This is particularly apparent in the William and Adelaide suites as well as in the restaurant. They have also tried to create a sense of eclectic elegance and comfort as was popular in the Victorian era and the bar and lounge areas pay tribute to the novelists and statesmen of the time. The more relaxed glamour of the Edwardian days can be seen in the bedrooms and is a trend running through the whole hotel. Royal York is delighted to be opening its doors as a hotel again after nearly 80 years and perhaps the statesmen novelists inventors sports heroes and celebrities of tomorrow will come and enjoy our hospitality as they did during the past two hundred years

Room was lovely. Breakfast was appalling. Hotel had changed from a full English breakfast to a continental breakfast 4 days prior to our stay and they have a lot of work to do:
Staff: One member of staff trying to cover Reception (people checking out & complaining) and the breakfast service.
Cleanliness: Dirty tables, dirty plates, cups and cutlery left on virtually every surface available. Including the table with food.
Food: Brown or white bread, 2 choices of cereal and some prepacked muffins. We found bread with mould on it. Tea and coffee was from a tiny machine which kept breaking and it took us 4 attempts to get a coffee - the other 3 attemps came out with hot milk with bits in it. No pastries, no cheese, no ham, no bread rolls etc.

Location was good for us. Lively at night but then so were we. The actual decor of room made up for the lack of finish to minor works. Lovely to have bed (very comfortable with crisp clean sheets) in bay window overlooking sea and the free-standing bath was truly amazing but needs a shower attachment as impossible to wash my long hair. Surprisingly, no iron so went out looking creased. Staff were all lovely but unfortunately breakfast was inedible. Very poor quality produce used and cooked to imperfection. Really was horrible and repeated around dining room, such a shame.
Took wrong stairs down from room and ended up on staff stairwell - a big mistake. Management really need to take a look as a basic health and hygiene risk exists here.
“ Top Tip: The Cask Brighton on Middle street was an amazing find, almost reluctant to share it with anyone as it's so good. We ate there at lunch and food was as good as any top London restaurant; rabbit and tarragon pie to die for and a seafood platter that would feed an army. Staff went out of their way to please.

“ Hotel was lovely, the only negatives were that the hotel did not have its own car park when it stated that it did and it was so noisy outside at night time and this was on a Monday night.

1. Room 105 was clean, nice size, with flat screen tv, fridge and a huge bed, plus large window which had a sea/pier view (please note you are also overlooking the National Express bus loading bays.
2. Bathroom was modern and clean with a range of toiletries.
3. The Airconditioning was non existant but thankfully we were provided with 2 floor standing fans which did help to circulate the HOT (27.5C) air round the room.
4. Friday night the Hotel seem to have a Disco running til midnight which you can here quite clearly in Room 105.
5. Breakfast is very poor, 3 options for cereal Coco pops, rice crispies and what looked like frosties, cooked breakfast was warm not hot and if you required tea to drink, it was weak, cold and uninspiring!
6. Some staff whilst being polite could do with a training course in customer service and hospitality as this was lacking on several occasions.
“ Top Tip: As this hotel is right on Brighton Seafront, with lots of clubs and bars it gets very noisey so I would recommend EARPLUGS which solves the noise problem until the early hours

Staff were at all times very friendly and helpful, although they do need to be shown how to make a decent cup of tea at breakfast. The tea we were served was lukewarm and very weak indeed.
Also, over a hot weekend, the room's air condioning left a lot to be desired.
