Strange entrance reception, as when we arrived a lot of people were congregating around the main staircase and the main reception area is behind this at the rear of the building.
But staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The bedroom was large and had the usual flat screen tv and mini bar with a large king size bed (but this was very firm). But the room did not have a safe nor did it have any drawers to put clothes in ( although there was a large wardrobe). But the staff were happy to store valuables in their safe for no charge.
The breakfast was excellent with a lot of choice for the continental breakfast and also for a small additional charge there was a very good selection of cooked breakfasts.
The bar area wasn't large but it was friendly and well lit.
We didn't eat in the restaurant but the prices seemed in keeping with other local restaurants within 5 mins walking distance of the hotel.
“ Top Tip: There were a number of fish restaurants within 2 minutes walk of the hotel, but we visited the granary at the end of the road and this was very homely with a large log burner to keep you nice and cosy.Also there was a wetherspoons pub about a 15 minute walk from the hotel which was very good value for money for both food and drink.

“ We booked 3 nights to celebrate our wedding, the original proposal (at this location on the 29th Dec) & a 30th birthday. The hotel upgraded us to the master suite the anniversary of our proposal (and to the same room). We were really impressed!
“ Top Tip: Visit Fishers seafood restauraunt opposite, fab food and relaxed atmosphere. The Granary a 2 minute walk down the road has live music, good veg and meat platters and fairly priced wine and cocktails.

The Holiday Inn Express - Edinburgh City Centre is ideally located with in a five minute walk from Princes Street Edinburgh Waverley station and St. Andrews Bus station with a ten minute walk to the Royal Mile.
