The hotel is very conveniently placed and has lovely grounds and good parking. The public rooms are in good order and the chandeliers and sheer size of the hotel is impressive. The reception staff were both pleasant and helpful.
However the evening meal was mediocre and not particularly cheap. We asked if we should pay for the meal or wait until we checked out. We were assured that we didn't have to pay there and then. However, a couple of hours later, my friend was woken up by insistent knocking on her bedroom door and a waitress demanded payment for the meal, which was quite disconcerting, as my friend was in her night attire and was quite shaken by this.
My room (409) had clean towels and bed linen, but clearly hadn't been cleaned. There were bits on the carpet and hairs in the bath. The toilet was in need of bleach to remove the staining, which was quite pronounced.
The decor in our bedrooms was tired and could have done with refurbishment.
Breakfast offered a good choice and check out was efficient.
“ Top Tip: A lovely art gallery in Swan Street which was a few minutes walk from the hotel.

“ A great hotel! The staff are friendly and helpful, the food served was fantastic. The room was quite average; some of the furniture was in a bit of a state of dis-repair but otherwise it was very clean! All in all one I'd recommend and would definitely stay there again.
