“ An excellent, friendly hotel which we shall visit again. The food was good with care taken to accommodate dietary requirements. Within walking distance there is a railway station where one can travel to Whitby or Pickering, often by steam train in restored, period carriages.

Located on a quiet tree lined cul-de-sac, The Groves is an independantly owned and managed, large, four star Guest House a level ten minutes walk from York Minster and the city centre beyond. Made up of three separate building surrounding our private courtyard car park, the main building dates back to the late 1800s and still retains many of the original features of its design such as the splendid grand staircase, the leaded windows, and the minstrels gallery. All of the bedrooms in all three buildings have ensuite facilities, large 32 inch flat screen TV with freeview, comfortable beds (UK standard size of double or single), hospitality tray, hairdryer, crisp bedding, towels, and toiletries. Please note that all of our rooms have a shower (rather than bath). “ An excellent guest house with everything you need. We stayed for 4 nights in the annex to the main building. We had a normal double room (no.41) and were pleased to have a bath as well as shower. The room had obviuosly been recently updated and the bathroom was a real bonus in terms of size and fittings.
