“ Average hotel. Luke warm breakfast with little choice of food. No offer of coffee being topped up or toast being made. No shower cap etc in bathroom. Good location and clean room.

“ We had a wonderful weekend at the Royal York Hotel. We stayed in a garden room which was a very good size with a good size bathroom. The hotel itself is a grand Victorian creature full of original features, but there is nothing outdated about the decor or room fitments. Tried room service too - both food and service were excellent. Nothing to fault and will stay here again.

Hotel Noir has rooms with a free minibar, free Wi-Fi and a modern black-and-white décor. It is less than 1 mile from York Minster and has a small, free car park. Shops and attractions in York city centre are about 15 minutes' walk away. Buses stop along the way. Each room has a flat-screen digital TV and a Tassimo hot-drinks machine with fresh milk. Bedrooms also have an MP3 player/alarm clock, and some feature a four-poster bed. The 3-star hotel in York has a bar and a restaurant serving 3 course evening dinners. In the morning, breakfasts are cooked to order. Hotel Noir runs a free minibus to York Racecourse on race days, which is about 3 miles away.
