“ The staff were thoroughly professional and accessible . We arrived early and were given immediate access to a convenient and well-sited room . My limited mobility was noticed and a room with walk-in shower was provided .
The traditional Kentish pub atmosphere had been well preserved and updated . This was complemented well by a restaurant extension and beautiful garden with high quality chairs and tables . There was a Smoking Den away from the dining area ; this helped keep up the clean-air policy for outside dining . The comprehensive English breakfast was equalled in quality and quantity by the evening haute cuisine . Our stay was planned as a wedding anniversary which was recognised with two candles on the table . Nostalgia for well-kept traditional ale was not disappointed and the wine cellar offered variety and particularly good Spanish Reds .

“ Top Tip: Brilliant country lanes for careful slow driving and footpaths for the dappled light of walks in the woods . For riders there were many bridleways well signed and kept , particularly along the stretch of the North Downs . So much quiet nature so near motorways and the Maidstone conurbation is quite exceptional .
