The beautiful building is surrounded by private gardens making it ideal for a peaceful rural retreat. The hotel offers an excellent restaurant gym sauna steam room and massage treatments. Built in 1699 Middlethorpe Hall is an original William III country house. It has been fully restored and is now carefully decorated with antiques and fine pictures. The gardens and parkland have also been restored and include a white garden a walled garden a small lake and some beautiful trees. Now part of the National Trust all profits of the hotel are donated to the charity. “ Lovely 'olde worlde' atmosphere to this hotel that would make an ideal setting for an Agatha Christie novel. The room was large and comfortable with an excellent view over York racecourse. The breakfasts were excellent as was the service. The Swimming pool was a real delight attractively set out with a jacuzzi at one end. It is not very large but was warm and clean.

St George's is a family run bed and breakfast with 10 individually decorated ensuite bedrooms. This Victorian house is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac across from York's racecourse. It is a 10 minute walk to the city walls less to the start of York's wonderful eating places. From here walk round on the walls towards the ancient Minster or walk under the walls towards the start of the shops. From us it is around 20 min walk to the centre. There are double and twin ensuite rooms available with either a shower or a bath in the ensuite ( please let us know if you have a preference). There is one bedroom on the ground floor the same floor as the dining room.
