Good

I was not told about the £26 car parking charge until I arrived. The hotel tried to charge me for dinner when I had booked and paid for half board. The hotel did not mention my husbands birthday until the day after despite me telling them at the time of booking that it was his birthday. The service was very good and the food was excellent. I would go there for dinner, but I would not stay over.

Top Tip: The Ashmolean museum opposite the hotel was great to visit

Although my stay was only for one night I was made to feel very welcome and comfortable. As a single female traveller, this is not always the case. My single room contained a small and extremely comfortable double bed and was spotlessly clean. There was complimentary bottled water of both types and a good selection of teas and coffee, as well as biscuits.
The breakfast was delightfully served and comprehensive. Many fellow guests made the most of both the excellent buffet and the cooked offerings. Staff were relentlessly pleasant and helpful.
My one small criticism of the room, which was the double glazed window did not shut entirely was dealt with appropriately and I have every confidence that the next guest will not have that experience.
A very good stay.

Top Tip: Sunday lunch at the Parsonage was a delight.

The hotel was a great example of old english grandness. It is a little tired and could do with some freshening up but overall a fantastic break. Bed very comfortable and room very quiet. Food very good and staff excellent, nothing too much for them. Excellent location and within very easy reach of several great cocktail bars and restaurants.
My only complaint would be that there was a faint whiff of drains throughout the ground floor at our stay, not sure what was going on with that and it did not permeate the upper floors or bedrooms.

Top Tip: Found some great cocktail bars and a superb french restaurant, Pierre Victoire in Jericho.

We were allocated room thirty which was a well appointed room, but its window was immediatly next to a bank of six massive what I understand to be air conditioning vents which meant we were trying to sleep next to what sounded like a wind tunnel. If you are used to sleeping in a noisy bedroom maybe you would be able to ignore the noise but my guess is there has been many a sleepless night spent is this room.
Having said this the hotel did arrange without argument to change our room the next day which helped. It does seem however if you book without a special request the hotel think your fair game to put in a room which they must know has a noise problem. Bearing in mind the hotel's claim to be high quality & customer caring this does not seem very satisfactory. otherwise our rating would have been higher.
Apart from this we really enjoyed the hotel and it was a shame our first evening was spoilt. The staff were nothing but pleasant helpful and polite

Top Tip: The Randolph is right opposite the Ashmoleon which is exccelent and has a really nice rooftop restaurant
