“ I found the hotel very disappointing, it was cold and the bed was uncomfortable, for the cost of the hotel I expected more elegance.

“ a disappointment, from arriving at the hotel, there was no car parking spaces available and we had to wait for some time as we were informed there was a conference taking place. . and all parking was taken.
the entrance to the hotel was visibly dirty, with finger marks visible on the doors and windows were not clean . . a poor welcome.
our room was very small, the window was not able to open and proved to be stuffy and cramped.
breakfast service was very poor, no one explained the service or pointed out were items of the continental breakfast were, we were not asked if we would like more tea or coffee (one very small cup ) per person, no extra toast was offered, in fact no staff asked if we were satisfied or required anything.
we have received far superior service and comfort in other hotels which have been of a similar or less tariff.

“ We had a wonderful weekend at the Royal York Hotel. We stayed in a garden room which was a very good size with a good size bathroom. The hotel itself is a grand Victorian creature full of original features, but there is nothing outdated about the decor or room fitments. Tried room service too - both food and service were excellent. Nothing to fault and will stay here again.

“ Top Tip: Very cheap trad. English cooked breakfast at the station nextdoor (£3.99) if you want to save yourselves £10 a head on the hotel buffet breakfast!

Heating not turned on ready for our stay even though 2 degrees outside
No hot water for bathing or shower at 7 pm on a Saturday
