The hotel was being refurbished during our visit, Nov 2012. Location excellent for French Quarter and entertainment. Easy walking distance to cruise ship terminal and Megabus stop.
Our bedroom looked like it had just been refurbished and was excellent. Bathroom had some black mouldyness on the seal round the bath. Sink was obviously blocked on our arrival, and hair dryer had exposed and broken wires and did not work. Hotel fixed sink and provided a portable hairdryer . The carpets along the corridors of the third floor appeared extremely dirty and soiled. The worst I have ever seen in a hotel, but the corridor did not smell bad. When the lift door opened and we saw it we thought we could not stay in such a filthy place,, but the room was so good we decided to stay.
Once the refurbishment is completed and corridor carpets replaced this will likely be a good hotel and we may stay again when passing through New Orleans.

“ The St James Hotel in New Orleans was fantastic. As a 64 yr old English lady travelling in America for the first time I was a bit nervous but the staff could not have been more friendly & helpful & the hotel was in a perfect location to get around all the sights & sounds of New Orleans. My room was imacculate & I would recommend the hotel to anyone planning a trip to this wonderful city. Thank You

Top Tip:
Mothers Restaurant - just round the corner from the hotel.
Get a travel card for the trollies & buses. Both a great way to get around.
Book onto a "City Tour". The hotel arranged this for me & it helped me to get a feeling of the city.
