While needing just a little updating, the hotel was very good. Rooms were cleaned every day. When I asked, reception managed to get us a room higher in the hotel, for a better view of NY. Concierge was fine for arranging tickets for us.
The cost of the drinks and snacks available in the room/fridge was very high though, which is probably the one minor negative point.
Very central accross the road from Central Park, 20 yds from a subway, with bars and restaurants very near. Ideal position which suited us very well.
“ Top Tip: The Jekyll and Hyde resturant which is less than 5 mins walk away, had pretty good food and was quite amusing during our meal. But absolutely definately have a brunch in the Plaza food hall, where the food was prepared before our eyes, was absolutely gorgeous and good value for what you get. A wonderful eating experience. Mickey Mantels was a very good bar for a quick drink, staff very attentive and remenbered our order 3 days later.

“ This is the best hotel we have stayed in in New York (we have previously stayed in The Plaza, Jumeirah Essex House, The Hudson and the Wellington). The room looked exactly like the pictures on the website (very unusual!) and we had a magnificent skyline view of Manhattan along with a partial view of Central Park. By New York standards the room was huge. The complimentary continental breakfast was great and kept us going all day. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that we both got a complimentary cocktail each evening in the bar, free phone calls from the room (including international calls) and free internet. We had a slight problem with the electrics in our room when we arrived but it was rectified within minutes of us reporting it to reception. We can't think of a bad thing to say about the Helmsley and we will certainly be looking to go back there again as soon as possible.

“ My only complaint is that we had to pay cash on the return back to jfk airport .Instead of our voucher which the first driver took. So we had no proof of our return transfer which we already paid for it was 38 dollars.
“ Top Tip: We found a nice cuban restaurant on 5th ave lovely food very cheap.
