“ Hotel was clean and well equipped. Staff were very helpful (especially Quentin...) Breakfast very good, with waffles made to order - yum! Only downside was the attractive restaurant not used for dinner but served in the bar. A bit strange; we just went to an outside restaurant even though very tired. Convenient location but a significant walk to the Mall area; only two stops on metro though.

“ We enjoyed our stay; our double room was spacious and we thought the hotel had spent its money in all the right places - very comfortable beds, black-out curtains & large flatscreen TV. (We really didn't mind the stucco walls and cielings, the hallucinogenic hall carpeting and the modest sized lobby). As we were travelling with our child, and on a budget, the kitchen was very useful. The housekeeping was excellent and the other staff were very friendly and helpful. The street was quiet and the neighbourhood lovely.

Carlyle Suites Hotel in Washington DC is beautifully art-deco inspired and near Dupont Circle; it is handy for the National Mall and monuments and museums. There is a Metro station just blocks away.
Worthwhile discount from TravelRepublic, payable in sterling.

Top Tip:
Close to The Phillips Collection - a superb museum of modern art, opened in 1921. One of Washington's best-loved.
Also near Georgetown and Dunbarton Oaks Garden, well worth a walk round.
