the hotel was clean. the staff were very friendly and helpful. the grounds of the hotel are stunning with ponds full of fish and terapins. the sunbeds are free and you have alot of privacy, you can sunbath 20 meteres away from the pools if you prefer.
this is my second time staying at this hotel as i love the privacy for sunbathing.
We stayed bed and breakfast. The breakfast was good with pleanty to choose from. The only bad thing is the beds are solid although i have found this to be the same anywhere i have stayed in portugal.

Top Tip albar is is great meeting place, very reasonable priced and great choice of snacks and meals. Also piccalo mondo is fab for dinner and reasonably priced, they also have a stunning open air terrace upstair, very romantic for couples although great for famiilies too.

This is our 4th time staying at this hotel so this time we thought we would book a junior suite as a treat. We shouldn't have gone to the additional expense as our room view was of the toliet block of the adjacent appartments. When we complained to reception all we got were blank looks, shoulder shrugs and told how difficult it was. We had assumed all junior suites overlook the pool due to the significant difference in price from a standard room, but this is deffinitely not the case.
This hotel is not suitable for those with walking difficulties (15 minutes downhill to town) or for those looking for entertainment. There is no entertainment other than Wednesday or Saturday evenings or the big screen tv in the dining room/bar showing only sports channels. However the pool area is very spacious and sunbeds are available any time of day.One morning at 11:30 we were the only two people by the pool despite the hotel apparently being fully booked.

Top Tip Great town square for a relaxing drink and a bit of people watching. Some very good restaurants. We highly recommend the Vagabondo for monkfish and prawn kebabs.

Just returned from July 09 holiday and must say we found the hotel grounds and pool area excellent for relaxing. I think the hotel was not full but even so we sometimes had the pool to ourselves.

Top Tip The main tourist area retaurants etc are about a 10-15 minute walk away - downhill and a €5 taxi ride home

The Yellow Hotel was very clean and the staff friendly. The food was also excellent and in abundance, it catered for all tastes and dietry requirements.

The only downside was that the hotel had a slightly dull atmopshere. No excitement in the air. I also found the large TV screen in the restuarant a bit distracting.

There was ample space around the pool, which again was immaculately clean and plenty of sunbeds available.

I would definately stay again at the Yellow Hotel and would recommend to friends.

Top Tip Dont rely on the hotel for your day and evening entertainment. Alvor village is a lovely place and anyone walking around the village should go into the 'Bolan Bar' and try their delicious caipirinhas cocktain! Only one mind!

Very poor quality breakfast, definiately not 4 star hotel standard.
Hotel facilities are very good, in a nice quiet location, with plenty of free parking. The walk into Alvor takes 20/25 minutes.
Rooms are also very nice with modern fixtures and fittings.

Somebody needs to fix the access roads - they are truly terrible!! Otherwise this hotel was quite pleasant, if ever again will be visiting the Algarve Motorpark - will stay again, the circuit is 20 mins drive away.

I think that average is the only word I can use, location, decor, amenities, food.

Top Tip To eat anywhere on the marina is a lovely experience, quaint and lovely view.

Check-in Date: 30/Oct/2008

The hotel was better than expected after reading various reviews, although I agree that it is more 3 star than 4. Food was ok and always found something to our liking. 15 minutes walk into Alvor centre wasn't a problem. The hotel wasn't very full when we stayed and would imagine bar area and restaurant to struggle when full. One problem was the paper thin walls dividing rooms.

Not near to the beach but there is a hotel bus schuttle into town and to the beach.
Very clean, good service.

Check-in Date: 22/Sep/2008

Food was plentiful, varied, and well cooked. The coutesy bus into Alvor and the beach was a necessity, however, it could have been more frequent and larger in size. The value for the price paid was excellent and the staff were helpful and courteous. There is an excellent room arrangment where there is a family grouping, as two rooms can be locked off from the main corrider, whilst still retaining an internal hallway where rooms can be locked off from one another as and when required. Good value

Top Tip The riverside walk along the River Alvor is an absolute delight, and this can be reached easily from both the Hotel and Alvor.

On the whole we were fairly happy with this hotel. I do think it's really a three star standard though. It was very clean, the pool area and gardens were well looked after and very quiet. This was September after all! Definitely request a room overlooking the gardens. Our room and bathroom were a good size and the sheets and towels were changed almost very day.The reception staff were always very helpful. A quiet seating area would have been appreciated as there was nowhere to get away from loud music or the television showing football all the time in the bar. However, the dining room is a real let down! There did not seem to be a manager to check room numbers or supervise the mostly very miserable staff. Anyone could have walked in to eat as long as they didn't try to order a drink, when you were asked for your room number. Not one member of staff attempted to show you to a table or even make eye contact, say hello or raise a smile. The food was actually quite tasty if one tried it but it was so unattractively presented a lot of guests wouldn't try it. Even though we were on half board we ate out on four occasions to get a feeling of being welcome somewhere.

Top Tip There are several great fish restuarants leading down to the harbour but make sure you ask for the fish to be weighed before you choose it! We paid a fortune for Dover sole. The beach bar where the hotel minibus drops you off is great. Very friendly, efficient staff and good food. You'd have to be a very fit walker to walk to the beach/town and back to the hotel every day! It's not the distance, just the hilly terrain. Take the public bus into Portimao or Lagos for a change of scenery. It's very cheap to get around without a car.

Excellent pool, we were there peak period however no problem finding sun-beds - set in lovely surroundings, formerly 9-hole pitch-and-putt golf area, lots of grass, ponds, birds (especially egrets), not overlooked by other buildings (try hard to get a room on pool side of building!). Not really 4 star, but good 3 star. We were half-board, not great choice in food but we were never stuck (only ate out one night in eleven!) and what there was was pretty good (great desserts!). Very reasonable drink/wine prices (bottle of decent house red for 9 euros, others for 10/11/12/18 euros). Modest entertainment 4 nights per week in quite small bar, pleasant if unexciting! Room fine, small balcony, staff friendly and helpful, good pool bar. Lots of kids, noisy at times, avoid school hols if that bothers you! Excellent value as far as we were concerned.

Top Tip Massive beach near Alvor with handy bars/restaurants, sunbeds etc for hire, good swimming in sea (hotel runs courtesy bus). Alvor itself well worth wandering around, quite commercial nowadays, lots of tourists, but still retains "small town" feel.
Try Por do Sol Restaurante, on road out of Alvor - really excellent (but don`t have a liqueur - smallest we`ve had in continental Europe, and pricey too!)
