The Hotel was good for the price. The bedroom carpet was filthy. Good breakfast. Wonderful view of the palace & a great location. Juan was very chatty & a rugby football fan.

The Hotel Principe Pio is centrally located and near the Palacio Real and Place Espanol. I found the rooms were nice and spacious and of good quality. Staff were pretty attentive and helpful.

The only downside to the room I had was that the walls are quite thin and I could hear the people next door talking pretty loudly. Also there is no mini bar in the room at all which means you can't store drinks or food (which can be handy in a hot city like Madrid).

Top Tip If you want to do a day trip to Segovia, it is best to take the metro to Atocha RENFE rather than trying to catch the autobus from Principe Pio.

Also there is a nice ice cream shop just down the road from the hotel.

I booked this room for my colleague who was travelling to Madrid on business. The hotel was ok. Unfortunately his allocated room was dirty when he went to it and had to change rooms, this was done to his satisfaction and his second room was fine.

Excellent value for money for a capital city. It is just 3 star and proves you don't have to pay top 5 star prices to get a clean reasonably sized room, friendly attentive service and very good buffet breakfast in an amazing location. The hotel (perhaps a little old fashioned in character) is in a tree lined street, right opposite lovely public gardens, which provide a short cut to the best attraction of the city : the Royal Palace. Nearby there is a wide choice of good restaurants. Only 25 minutes taxi ride from the airport but there is a public car park next to the hotel if you want to drive. We found a car wasn't needed and walked to most tourist attractions and the taxis were always available.

Top Tip The locaton of the hotel is brilliant - so close to many attractions - shops, restaurants, must-see monasteries, the relaxing Plaza de Oriente, The Cathedrals, the Palacio Real etc... Further afield the three amazing art galleries - what a lively capital! Best restaurant nearby : El Buey, Pl de la Marina espanola 1 ,speciality : cook your own steak !(book ahead).

Jonathan from Hyde reviewed the Principe Pio Hotel
Check-in Date: 19/Sep/2007

The room was good, as it had a new bathroom with a very good shower. The breakfast was average, nothing hot, and not a huge choice. Location was good for a stroll through the park to the Royal Palace, and all routes towards Plaza Mayor and Sol.

Top Tip Only one change on the Metro from the airport to Principe Pio station, worth it for €2, rather than €35 in a taxi.

This a pleasant, comfortable and very quiet hotel within walking distance of the historic parts of Madrid. It is good value for money.

Top Tip Loads of bars and restaurants within walking distance as well as the historic centre of the city, lovely parks and the huge Principe Pio shopping centre. Close to the metro. Use Plaza de Espana rather than Principe Pio metro station.
