In fact, Larnaca's story starts when the town was named Kittim after Noah's grandson. Now, that's heritage.
• Further inland you can explore the surrounding countryside liberally sprinkled with olive groves, quiet villages and ancient windmills.
• Larnaca's diverse appeal makes it a top holiday spot for sunworshippers, birdwatchers, party animals, culture vultures and nudists. Plus, it's a great holiday destination for all ages.
• Beaches in Larnaca: A stunning sweep of faded gold stretches alongside a necklace of shimmering aquamarine bays and coves. The beach runs for an amazing 3 miles. And apparently there are some lovely nudist beaches here.
• Eating Out in Larnaca: Simply superb, the mezze featuring local delicacies of fresh fish, salads with tomatoes and olives drenched in the local oil and accompanied by the local cheeses are a delight. Larnaca has many traditional tavernas and beachside restaurants serving wonderful food, sourced or caught locally, and cooked the same on the day. It doesn't get any fresher than this.

• Shopping in Larnaca: There is a busy bazaar where the local artisans in cooper, wood and antiques trade their wares. The craftsmanship is to a high standard and the prices are really reasonable.
• Birdwatching in Larnaca: In winter the Great Salt Lake is home to thousands of pink flamingos.
• Sightseeing in Larnaca: Larnaca is the home of the 9th century Agio Lazarus Church, where St Lazaros is buried.
• The 13th century temples at Kition, Larnaca castle, Agia Phaneromeni Church and the impressive archaeological museum are all worth visiting.
• The eastern coast is dotted with kokkinokhoria or red villages, so-called due to the the red-tinged local soil.

Top Tips you shouldn't miss

• The hotel has it's own beach, immediately in front of its extensive gardens, and the beach, public as well, stretches for a good three miles, and is extremely pleasant to walk, easy too. There are a number of good restaurants nearby, but we liked best La Veranda, about a mile away towards Dekhelia. At Dekhelia, the British Sovereign Base there is an excellent fish and chip restaurant -other dishes too, fairly priced and beachside. There is also a good cafe at the same location and there are no restrictions on public access to these establishments.more Beaches & Sights Top Tips
