On the south coast of Italy, looking out over the Bay of Naples, Sorrento is a town regularly frequented by international holidaymakers. The Sorrento Peninsula has views out towards Naples, the Mt Vesuvius volcano, and the small island of Capri. Sorrento is known for crafts, particularly 'intarsio' wood inlaying which uses ivory, bone or mother of pearl. Lace and ceramics are other authentic souvenirs of the region to pick up before you head home. The town's appeal is in no small part due to the picturesque Amalfi Coast landscape and the deep blue waters. Piazza Tasso is the central square, lined with older buildings, pavement cafes and the Museum Correale.
