Holidays to Frigiliana
This whitewashed village with cobbled streets and terracotta roofs is nestled in the hills near Nerja on the Costa Del Sol, about 50km west of Malaga. It has received a few awards for its good looks, too, scooping up ‘prettiest village’ prizes handed out by the Spanish tourism authorities. Frigillana is set on a hillside, 300 metres above sea level, so there are great views. On a clear day you can see North Africa.
The closest beach to Frigiliana and about 10 minutes in the car. There are about 12km of sand here.
Playa de Salon
Popular because of its bars and cafés. There are also sun loungers and umbrellas available for hire.
This 1640 ceramic tiled drinking fountain in the heart of the village has been the subject of many a watercolour.
San Antonio church
The whitewashed exterior belies an intricate and ornate interior, with old frescos and gold detailing.
One of the nicest things to do here is wander the labyrinth of streets, some of which date back to Moorish times.
A popular form of transport here, and with the steep terrain, you might prefer to let a horse take the strain!
Many of the cafés and bars have rooftop terraces so you can enjoy a view of the village while you dine.
Head to the nearby Higueron River with some bread, cheese and olives and enjoy a tranquil waterside lunch.
There are live flamenco bars in nearby Nerja, where you can enjoy a drink while you watch the traditional dance.
Nearby Nerja has lots of pubs and bars, from cosy traditional inns to modern cocktail lounges with international music.
