Holidays to Bled
An enchanting town set on a lake in the foothills of the Julian Alps, Bled, in the heart of Slovenia, is a stunning looking place and, as such, is a popular destination for tourists. It has some of the most beautiful walking country you’ll ever see, and the lake provides lots of watersport opportunities. The glacial lake is emerald green in colour and it has an islet with a church on it in the middle.
Relax on the banks of Bled and immerse yourself in the clear water at the only designated bathing area on the lake.
The Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Maria sits on an islet in Lake Bled and can be reached by rowing boat.
The oldest castle in the country sits atop a cliff and was first mentioned in 1011. Great views of the lake from here.
Triglav National Park
Next door to Bled lies Slovenia’s only national park – there are waterfalls, rivers and lake set among the mountains.
This waterfall has a 25 metre drop and runs down the limestone cliffs – there’s a step ladder to climb up.
This is a national dish and translates as ‘buckwheat spoon bread’. It’s made with buckwheat and pork crackling.
A strudel style dish that can be sweet or savoury. A traditional national dish often made for celebrations.
A popular bar with a wide terrace that overlooks the lake. There’s a sports TV here and artwork all over the walls.
One of the town’s top party venues, with a large cocktail menu, wide screen TV and wonderful views of the castle.
