Holidays to Lixouri
Founded in the 16th century, this is the main town on the Kefalonian peninsula of Paliki. It’s also the island’s second-largest settlement, which means it’s ideal for those looking for lively entertainment as well as a relaxing break. It was once the summer holiday destination of the Greek royal family, and like all places on this picturesque isle, has more than its fair share of idyllic areas and beautiful, traditional architecture.
Prepare to be dazzled by the azure waters. Land lovers will enjoy the soft sand and the waiter service from nearby bars.
Small, sandy with shallow waters, Lepeda can be reached by foot, although it’s around a 30-minute walk from Lixouri.
Gero Gombos Lighthouse
With its location on a beautiful spot, it’s worth sticking around until dark to catch the area’s amazing sunsets.
Only one monk now lives here as a caretaker. He does a great job of keeping the gardens and buildings in top condition.
The Ionian coastline is spectacular, and there’s no better way to appreciate that than by taking a day-long boat tour.
The more adventurous may fancy hiring a jetski, allowing them to explore the coastline at adrenalin-pumping high speed.
The seafront has a wealth of tavernas. Many sell freshly caught calamari and snapper, giving a taste of old Kefalonia.
It may sound like a character played by Jane Fonda in a 1960s movie, but this is actually a delicious mixed-bean soup.
Apolafsi Bar and Restaurant
A 15 minute walk from the centre of town is rewarded with a great atmosphere and a friendly welcome.
Senso Cafe Bar
This bar has a central location, open until late at night, and serves up great drinks in a party atmosphere.
