Holidays to Kolios
At just 12km long and 6km wide, Skiathos is a tiny island in the Aegean Sea. But what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in picturesque surroundings, chilled out resorts and great food. For those looking to put their feet up, but with the option of a little adventure, Kolios is the ideal base. Just west of Skiathos Town, its whitewashed houses and narrow, winding streets are picture perfect.
Located in a bay edged with wooded headlands, it’s quiet with many secluded, romantic spots a short walk away.
Livelier than Kolios, it’s also home to a busy marina where it’s easy to get food and drink.
Papadiamantis House Museum
The former Skiathos home of author Alexandros Papadiamantis has been turned into a tribute to his life and work.
At the centre of Skiathos Town is this cultural hub, which houses a collection of traditional costumes and artefacts.
The island’s largest town is just a short bus ride away. Take a guided tour around its historic sites.
The hit movie Mamma Mia! was filmed on Skiathos. Many an hour can be spent spotting where Meryl Streep and co hung out.
It’s the Greek word for almond, but it’s also used to describe the area’s traditional macaroon biscuits.
An odd name perhaps, but these are delightful preserves, often served up in small portions.
Hotels in the village have their own bars, which provide drink and a relaxing atmosphere for non residents.
A quick trip to Skiathos Town opens up a new world of clubs. This small but funky venue has Northern Soul nights.
