Holidays to Stalos
Situated on the ‘Old National Road’, this coastal town just a few miles from Chania is blessed with great beaches. Towards the seafront you'll find the more modern amenities while up in the hills is a more traditional centre full of tavernas. Across the sea is the uninhabited islet of Agii Theodori, while the town also makes a great base to explore the surrounding countryside and nearby resorts.
The main beach is long and covered in golden sand. The waters are clear and there are loads of restaurants nearby.
A mile or so from the centre, this beach is part of Galatas village. It has excellent sand and shallow, still water.
This deserted island can still be visited by boat. The legend claims it was formed by a sea monster and its baby.
Taking in the peninsular, expect steep cliffs and caves and a trip round Gramvoussa Island with its Venetian castle.
There are 2 main gorges to hike nearby - Samaria Gorge, which takes a full day, or the less daunting Imbros Gorge.
Five miles inland is this waterpark great for families. A pool sits at the centre while pretty gardens provide shelter.
Most of the best food is on the seafront. Not only that but you can also enjoy the excellent views and cool breeze.
The biggest settlement in the area, its busy restaurants are nearby. Expect a mix of local and international food.
This town is full of bustling bars and restaurants. Its bars tend to be open a little later, with an international feel.
There’s plenty of opportunity to experience local Crete. The tavernas have live music, dancing and even plate smashing.
