After booking I had read reports suggesting this hotel had a number of problems. We were pleasantly surprised to encounter nothing serious.
Yes, the hotel is showing its age with furnishings & fittings showing plenty of use but everything worked fine.
We had breakfast there every day and would suggest that this is an area needing a little attention as service is very reactive rather than proactive. Items had to run out before action was taken to replenish them. Dined there only once and, unfortunately, the restaurant was almost empty and rather soulless: the food was very good and competitively priced but the wine was relatively overpriced. The menu was quite limited.

Booked twin room - got double room with smallest ever double bed. Therefore spent very uncomfortable, hot and miserable, sleepless night. Hotel was dingy with a feeling of everything not being as clean as it should be. The carpet in our room was stained and dirty and the furniture and fittings were ugly and dated.
Breakfast consisted of watered down reconstituted juice, cheap cereals to which you must help yourself from shallow bowls using miniature shovels resulting in an embarrassing mess as cereal spilled over the serving table in the process.
We waited 15 minutes for a waiter to appear and ask if we wanted tea/coffee/toast and the dining room was not even a fraction full. Then we were brought only one round of toast each.
The full English breakfast was cold and congealed and tasteless.
All in all a very disappointing experience and one which we not be in a hurry to repeat.

The hotel was very dated. Decor and rooms basic and badly in need of upgrade ..possibly 2y ago.
On a positive note the staff were pleasant and our room was very clean.
