Air con- we were lucky enough to have 3 weeks of intermittent sewage smell . Would phone up reception, who would then send a well trained engineer to fix the problem, this involved him opening up a filter coffee bag, dousing it in water and placing it in the filter area of air con unit. Funnily enough this did get rid of the smell for a day or so (smell of fresh coffee instead) and then it would come back, we would report the problem and then the charade would start all over again, the bags eventually became stuck in the air vent in the room. Food was pretty dire, various upset stomachs, poor variety of food unless you are lucky enough to get a booking at one of the speciality restaurants. Speciality restaurant - Two male booking staff worked here; Leonardo who was very polite and did try to help, however the other guy (big chap) was more than happy to take bribes to facilitate booking, he was also extremely rude to guests even to the elderly. This man needs to get some serious customer training as he is without doubt the worst hotel worker I have ever come across!!!!!!! The head chef often sat down for his supper at the busiest time in the Macoa restaurant I have never seen this before. He would sit at his table like King Canute glaring at the kids for talking, while he entertained his own guests - perhaps if he had been inside the kitchen during service time the food would have been better? Gordon Ramsay would have a field day here. Rooms a bit tatty but to be fair you could sleep in them, and we were let down by the air con - please note previous reviews on this problem. Animation team - Young and fairly clueless unless they were organising the wet t shirt competition or chatting up the girls. On Christmas Day they had "Santa" arrive by speedboat to hand out presents which was a nice touch, however most Santas don't head direct to the beach bar afterwards to sink a pint - the kids got really upset as he had taken of his hat and beard at this point and he was covered in foundation that made him look a really creepy green colour. My youngest got upset and the Thomas Cook Representative (Andy) straight away pointed out the distress this was causing to the children, but Santa just laughed and carried on drinking - This was fairly typical of the maturity of these kids in the animation team and to be fair they would be great working 18-30 holidays. The waiting staff worked really hard and were very helpful. In fact they were a breath of fresh air (pardon the pun) after our previous experiences. Would give them top marks! There was a problem with sunbeds/chairs and towels which got stolen and caused all sorts of aggravation with guests. We had to get up at 5.30 at one point to get a sunbed with shade. This improved however towards the end of our time here. Tips : Spend a couple of hundred more and upgrade to another hotel if you are after a decent family holiday. If you are single you will probably love the resort. The problem is though the resort is too big and having a family resort and "fun" resort co-joined with facilities really does not work.
