My first impression was of an old beautiful stone built property with a lovely entrance and reception rooms. The staff on the desk were very helpful. Then we were given the room key and on entering the room I can safely say I have never been offered a room with a carpet that I would not even take my shoes off, it was filthy and the room was totally unacceptable (No 107) . I went to reception and spoke to the lady there who dealt with my complaint and gave me a key to another room (No 233) This room was as jaded and the carpet nearly as filthy as the first.I was told that there were no other rooms available to look at so I then enquired about any other hotels in the area and was offered a room at The Invercauld Arms it cost £10 more than the Fife Arms but the quality was outstanding. I then received a refund from The Fife Arms and took my cases to The Invercauld Arms. On speaking to some people that have stayed at The fife it is obvious to me that they have some acceptable rooms, it was also clear that I was not the only one to make the decision to look for alternate accommodation, they should not have taken bookings for rooms that are clearly not acceptable and give the hotel a very bad name. After a long drive the upset that all this caused was unacceptable.
