If you are looking for a budget hotel, this is for you, when I say budget I read bare essentials. I booked late for a conference in LA and could only get this hotel. The hotel itself is kinda Ok, quirky reception and bar area, but nice enough. Unfortunately room 624 was a dump, 3/4 bed, chicken wire in the (single glazed)windows, a TV that should be in a landfill, and a toilet so close to the shower that I got my feet wet. Had I not prepaid for the 5 nights, which admittedly was cheap (now I know why) I would have looked to check out staraight away.

A truly magical place. The decor is amazing, every door and wall is hand painted in a variety of moorish styles to give a real bazaar feel combined with the quirky furnishings it has an atmosphere which we loved. The room was smallish but clean and furnished in keeping with the feel of the whole hotel. A great alternative to the corporate hotel chain type of downtown LA hotels.

Although we had fantastic time in L.A the hotel was lovely, I was expecting really friendly staff after all the reviews I have read. Didn't really get this, it was like we was putting them out if we asked questions! Never been to L.A before and didn't know where the nearest shops, trams were. Maybe the owners were not there.. We were only there 2 days! Can not fault the hotel itself though...Clean spacious rooms, great location!

The Figueroa is not everyone's cup of tea! Its old fashioned and quirky with eclectic decor, some of the rooms are small and the bathrooms even smaller but unlike a lot of hotels in the US and especially all around it in downtown LA, it is individual! You walk into reception from a busy street and it is like walking into a bazaar. The decor is in spice colours (terracotta and green) with beautiful decor pieces scattered around. The staff are all extremely helpful, and cannot do enough to help guests, and I believe that quite a few of them have worked there for many years. The accomodation I occupied was a tad on the small side - but plenty big enough for one person - and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. It was absolutely spotless on arrival and kept that way despite the ever increasing mountains of catalogues and samples i kept bringing back! The only complaint I would make is that the room was a little bit noisy - and maybe some double glazing or even a thick curtain would have helped cit down on the traffic noise which could be excessive at times.

highly reccommend this hotel - decor was amazing throughout (old hollywood meets moroccan chic) and the outside pool and jacuzzi area felt like paradise amongst the downtown highrises! rooms quite small but clean, ideal base for exploring the area. couldn't fault it for the price, reasonable breakfast also available. must see it to believe it!
