In the Algarve you can spend your time soaking up the sun by the pool or relaxing on a beach. But sometimes the kids need entertainment, right? So head to Aqualand, one of Europe’s largest water parks located near Alcantarilha. It includes a 23 metre slide and swimming depths for all ages and abilities. After a fun-filled day at the water park, you can always head to the uncrowded beach of Praia de Roch, chilling out while the kids build sand castles.
Walt Disney World, Orlando
Walt Disney World is where all the magic happens. Home to four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, as well as hundred of merchandise and dining experiences, it’s one of those family holiday ideas that’s guaranteed to keep everyone entertained. With multiple hotels right on site and an easy transportation system, getting around the park is a breeze – which leaves plenty of time and energy for adventures. Meet the characters, explore the parks or hit the shops: there’s something for everyone at Walt Disney World, Orlando.
Attracting swathes of visitors every year, Corfu is a great place to visit if you fancy sunshine, scenery and swimming. Full of charm and beauty, you’ll find crystal clear waters, fishing harbours, painted boats and shallow waters that stretches across the coast. And you’ll find a huge range of activities to do with the kids too, from snorkelling and diving, to waterskiing and banana boat rides. Food in Corfu is also delicious (the Greeks are renowned for their excellent meat, fish and vegetable dishes), and it’s not too scary for the uninitiated or fussy eaters, either. Flights are cheap, and so is the wine, which is good news for mums and dads.

Lanzarote, Canary Islands
Only a four-hour flight away from the UK and plenty of sunshine (even in winter), Lanzarote is a family favourite. With miles and miles of beaches covered in golden sand, there’s plenty of space for you to sunbathe and build sandcastles. Make the most of the shopping outlets too, soak up the great nightlife, and visit Rancho Texas in Puerto del Carmen (great fun for kids and adults) with animals and a pool to enjoy. And if that’s not enough? You can also race go-karts in San Bartolome or visit the aquarium in Costa Teguise too.
Located in southern Turkey, Antalya is packed full of family holiday ideas and activities that will keep you all entertained. You’ll find beautiful beaches to play on from sunrise to sunset, and if the heat gets a little too much, explore the Antalya Aquarium, as well as the WildPark tropical reptile house within it. This attraction is devoted to insects and reptiles, as well an indoor snow park that has some re-creations of Turkeys most iconic landmarks. There is also a toy museum in Antalya’s old harbour – the perfect way to keep little ones entertained if you fancy getting off the beach for a bit.
A European bucket and spade holiday, Brittany is beautiful and offers everything from seaside resorts to family-friendly campsites, hidden coves and rocky promontories. It’s a great place for older kids as they can try windsurfing while the adults devour fresh oysters and sample local ciders, and little kids will love it too for its beautiful beaches and french cuisine.
If you don’t fancy Walt Disney World, but you do love the idea of experiencing what else is on offer in the Sunshine State, head straight to Florida. Try the Shuttle Launch Experience at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, or be fascinated by the animals lurking in the waters in the Everglades National Park. You can also head to Tampa Bay and swim alongside manatee in Crystal River. What more could you want from a holiday?

Tenerife, Canary Islands
Tenerife is one of Europe’s most family-friendly destinations, with Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas proving popular among those travelling with small children. If you want to do something fun that allows everyone to get involved, head to Siam Park in Costa Adeje, voted one of the best waterparks in the world. Then, after a day hurtling down slides and splashing in the pools, continue your holiday by heading to the north coast to see the greener side of Tenerife at Loro Parque Zoo. La Molina, Spain

It’s home to Spain’s first ever ski-lift and ski-school, and once hosted the Snowboarding World Championships – so it’s the perfect place for families who have experience on the slopes, as well as complete beginners. In fact, it has 68 skiable kilometres distributed over 63 slopes for all levels, so you’ll have a great time whether you’re pros or not. And best of all, Barcelona is less than a two hour drive away – a busy and bustling city full of history that’s just begging for a day trip.
