For an affordable action-packed family holiday, Turkey is certainly a winner. Marmaris in the Dalaman region is one of the big name resorts, boasting stylish all inclusive hotel resorts, a beautiful coastline and fantastic family-friendly attractions. As well as watersports at the beach, there’s Marmaris Atlantis Waterpark and historic sites like Mamaris Castle and Archaeology Museum.
Surrounded by lush landscapes and mountains, the region has some of Turkey’s best scenery too so make the most of local walks and off-road adventures. Marmaris Old Town is vibrant with market stalls, shops and cafes and the nightlife is just as colourful. One of the main areas to explore is Bar Street located by the Netsel Marina where you can eat, drink and dance until the early hours.
Once destroyed by an earthquake in 1960, Agadir has been transformed into a trendy beach resort at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. With its laid-back vibe and bundle of beachfront hotel resorts, Agadir is the place to relax for a fraction of the cost of popular beach destinations. Agadir enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year which continues to be one of its biggest selling points.
The main attraction is the 10 km long golden beach which curves gently to create stunning vistas. While the waves can be rough, kids’ can go horse or camel riding or spend hours making sandcastles in the powder-soft sand. Discover the local culture at the medina, bars and restaurants, or explore the ancient ruins and hilltop views of Kasbah. If you fancy a day trip, a three hour bus ride will take you to Essaouira which is popular for surfing.
With good looks on its side, Lisbon is a popular city break destination for its food scene, arts and culture. With a wide choice of hotels that are well connected to metro stations, you’ll never be far from the action. A perfect mix of old and new, the Portuguese city offers everything from the historic sites of Belem Tower and St Georges Castle, to modern buildings like The Museum of Design and Fashion (MUDE) and The Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT). Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
Bulgaria’s premier beach destination has been on the rise and for good reason. For couples who simply want a lively beach scene, exciting nightlife and the option to enjoy a few day trips, this is a great option that won’t break the bank. It’s cheap and cheerful, especially when you go all inclusive meaning all of your extra costs are covered. Hotels here range from purse-friendly 2-star apartments to 5-star resorts with pools, suites and spas.
The Black Sea resort also boasts plenty of affordable cafés and restaurants where you can sample Eastern European and Mediterranean cuisine, and bars offer incredibly cheap drinks too. The main hub of activity is along the 8km stretch of beach, so you can save on any transport costs by simply walking. If you fancy taking in some of the surrounding areas, the UNESCO Worold Heritage Site Nessebar is a 10 minute drive away.
