Holidays are what we look forward to all year, a chance to escape and finally relax and forget about the stress at home. For many of us holidays are essential and not be sacrificed no matter what budget constraints you have. If you are watching the pennies this year you will be pleased to hear that the Pound has increased in strength compared to other currencies, meaning that you can now get a lot more for your money. We’ve taken a look at what destinations are proving to be great value for money this summer.
Cheap holidays to Bulgaria
This year Bulgaria is one of the best destinations for value for money, which is mainly due to the Bulgarian Lev becoming a lot weaker than the Pound. Holidaymakers can expect to stretch their money further here and you can pay as little as £24 for a three course meal for 2 with wine. Bulgaria is a 3 ½ hour flight from the UK and flights cost around £200-£300 return, but the cheap accommodation and prices do make up for this. Bulgaria has many popular resorts to head to this summer such as Sunny Beach and Golden Sands (both beach resorts if you hadn’t guessed) as well as the traditional Nessebar and Plovdiv. Proving that you really can get a lot for your money, a stay at the 5* Victoria Palace Hotel in Sunny Beach will set you back just £125 per person for a week in June with bed and breakfast. Wherever you decide to stay there is something for everyone at this fun, beautiful and, most importantly cheap destination!
Cheap holidays to Turkey
Always a big favourite, Turkey is full of beautiful resorts at an affordable rate. According to recent reports holiday makers can expect to get 14% more out of the Turkish Lira than they did last summer. People on holiday to Turkey can expect to pay a lot less when eating out, shopping and booking excursions which will no doubt increase its popularity even more. There are many popular resorts to explore and Bodrum, Dalyan, Olu Deniz and Marmaris in particular are particularly good value. Flights to Marmaris cost around £200-£300 depending on dates, and those looking to stay in cheap hotels and apartments will be spoilt for choice with many charging as little as £15 per person for a week. For example, a stay at the highly rated Golden Orange Apartments will set you back just £20 per person for a week in June. Turkey has some impressive beaches and is a great place to relax with the family, but it’s also a great place for lively nights out with some fantastic open air clubs in both Marmaris and Bodrum.
Cheap holidays to Portugal
One of the biggest holiday destinations, Portugal is actually in the 20 most visited countries in the world. It does help that the country is very beautiful and has a huge choice of resorts which offer friendly, relaxing and cheap holidays. Bargain hunters will be pleased to know that prices have remained reasonable and meals out will still cost a lot less than back at home. Flights to Portugal will cost around £100-£200 depending on where you’re heading to and the journey is just under 3 hours from the UK. The weather in Portugal is very reliable and temperatures remain mild all year long which makes it a good winter sun destination as well as a summer escape. You have plenty of choice in resorts such as Albufeira and Vilamoura, which are great for fun beach breaks, Lisbon, which makes a good city break, and the island of Madeira which is all about relaxing in a picturesque landscape. Albuferia is a particularly good spot for cheap accommodation, for example a stay at the 4* Varandas De Albufeira Hotel will set you back a mere £99 per person for a week in June. If you’re looking to get more out of your spending budget this year then Portugal could be the right destination for you!
Cheap holidays to Spain
Always a popular choice, holiday makers will be pleased to hear that Spain is still offering cheap holidays this summer. Areas such as the Costa del Sol offer beautiful beaches, cheap flights and great value accommodation. You can grab flights to the Costa del Sol (Malaga airport) starting from £100-£200, taking just under 3 hours. A recent study by the post office showed that you can expect to pay around £22.73 for a 3 course meal for 2 in the Costa del Sol. Benalmadena is a good beach destination for families and you can grab some great hotel deals. For example the 4* Vistamar Hotel Apartments start from £166 per person for 1 week in June on bed and breakfast. Make sure you check what area of Spain you are planning to head to as some resorts can be more expensive than others (such as Barcelona), but generally you’ll find that living costs are lower in Spain meaning you can spend less and do more!
Other holiday destinations where you’ll get more for your buck this year are the Czech Republic, Mexico, South Africa and Cyprus. If you’re looking for a holiday bargain and want to explore the local area then make sure you check what the local prices are.
