Supposedly the first candy store in New York, Economy Candy opened in 1937 and has been going strong ever since.

Asataro Hirao moved from Hiroshima to Hawaii almost 90 years ago, bringing with him recipes of classic Japanese desserts, including the sweet and fragrant mochi. Made from rice flour, mochi has a pleasantly sticky texture and comes in many different flavours, including peanut butter and coconut. Other delicacies sold in this authentic store include chichi dango, a type of sweet dumpling, and kuri manju, a baked flour cake filled with bean paste.
