When we learnt that there are approximately 1,000,000 people flying across the planet in aeroplanes at any one time, we were amazed. After all, it’s easy to forget that the sky is bustling with activity given that we tend only to see the odd plane jetting off or coming in to land, right?
There’s a whole city in the sky operating up there. With so many people travelling to far and distant lands, it requires teams of highly skilled air traffic controllers, faultless communication skills and even someone to handle the odd traffic jam up in those wispy clouds…really!
This got us thinking. What would it look like if we were to scale all these planes into one fictional super plane? A plane that could hold all 1,000,000 passengers, including their luggage and every little thing that’s required for a comfortable flight? Well, that’s what we’ve created in digital form. You can see what this incredible aircraft would look like, and best of all, we’ve peppered it with some jaw-dropping facts that are bound to boggle the minds of even the most seasoned flyers.
For example, did you know that the plane would have to be a gigantic 191.4km long to get 1,000,000 people to fit inside? To help you understand what that would actually look like, it would mean boarding a plane that’s as long as not one, not two, but 22 Mount Everests stood tip to toe on one another!
And how about the length of time it would take to find your seat on this super plane? Well, you better get comfy in the queue: a plane capable of holding 1,000,000 passengers would take roughly 31 years to get everyone’s overhead luggage stowed away and 1,000,000 seatbelts safely fastened across laps.
